About Hannah
I am a certified French teacher with three years of classroom experience teaching middle and high school students. A Virginia native, I moved to Atlanta after spending a year living in France, where I had the opportunity to travel extensively throughout Europe and deepen both my language skills and cultural understanding firsthand. My teaching is also informed by my research interests in second language acquisition, with a focus on immersion-based learning and comprehensible input strategies. Outside of teaching, I love dogs, coffee, books, and—most of all—creating a kind, encouraging space where students feel comfortable taking risks and growing in confidence.

My tutoring approach is rooted in immersive, research-based language acquisition methods designed to help students build real, usable French skills—not just memorize vocabulary or grammar rules. I combine experience as a certified French teacher with strategies from immersion education and comprehensible input (CI) to create lessons that are engaging, supportive, and highly effective.
Teaching Method & Techniques:
I use a communicative, immersion-style approach where students are exposed to French in meaningful, contextualized ways from the very beginning. Rather than relying heavily on translation or isolated grammar drills, I prioritize:
- Comprehensible Input (CI): Students hear and read French that is slightly above their current level, supported by gestures, visuals, and context so meaning is clear without constant translation.
- Personalized Content: Lessons are tailored to students’ interests, experiences, and goals to increase engagement and retention.
- Spiral Learning: Key vocabulary and structures are recycled in different contexts so students naturally internalize language over time.
- Culture Integration: I embed Francophone culture, traditions, and real-world language use so students understand not just the language, but how it is lived and used.
Typical Lesson Plan:
A typical session is structured but flexible based on student needs:
1. Warm-up conversation (5–10 min): Simple, supported French conversation to activate prior knowledge.
2. Input-based activity (15–20 min): Storytelling, reading, listening, or visual input using target language structures.
3. Guided practice (10–15 min): Interactive activities such as Q&A, matching, or retelling using new language in context.
4. Application task (10–15 min): Students use language creatively—speaking, writing, or responding to prompts.
5. Quick review & feedback (5 min): Reinforcement of key structures and personalized guidance for improvement.
What Sets Me Apart:
What distinguishes my tutoring is the combination of:
- Certified teaching experience in middle and high school classrooms
- Immersion-based instruction that prioritizes real communication over memorization
- Comprehensible input strategies that reduce anxiety and increase natural acquisition
- Cultural integration that brings authenticity and relevance to every lesson
- A highly adaptive, student-centered approach that meets learners where they are
- I focus not just on helping students “learn French,” but on helping them actually think and communicate in French with confidence.
My lessons are designed for:
- Middle school, high school, and early college students
- Beginner through intermediate French learners
- Students in French I–IV, Honors, AP French, or equivalent courses
- Learners needing support with speaking, comprehension, grammar, or exam preparation
- Students who want to move beyond memorization and develop real fluency
- Individuals interested in Francophone culture and authentic communication skills
Whether a student is struggling to keep up in class or looking to advance beyond their current level, lessons are adapted to their goals, pace, and learning style.
