About Ian
I am a music student at UNC Greensboro and have been playing saxophone since 5th grade. I have given private lessons before to middle school and high school students, mostly to help them prepare for different types of auditions. I have more experience teaching classical music to saxophonists but have gained lots of experience playing and teaching jazz saxophone as well.

My main goal is to get students to understand the place where the music is coming from. What is the composer's background, when did he or she write the music, what is the meaning, and how can I portray that meaning are essential questions to playing a piece of music to its highest possible caliber. Technique and good sound finish the rest, but there are many building blocks that go into a piece of music other than just notes, dynamics, and tone.
