About Johie
OVERVIEW:
Hi there! My name is Johie. I mainly specialise in teaching Japanese (Primary/High School, HSC Japanese Beginners and Continuers) and JLPT N5–N3 learners. As a Japanese major at university, I aspire to go beyond textbooks by combining academic insight, helpful exam strategies, and real-life language application to help students truly understand and enjoy Japanese.
As a tutor, I focus on simulating real exam conditions, giving targeted guidance, and offering actionable insights that help students refine their skills. Aligned with the school curriculum, my approach ensures that every lesson directly supports their classroom learning. Beyond exams, I aim to foster long-term language learning, ensuring my students gain lasting confidence and the tools they need to excel in their academic careers. Together, we focus on growth, so success becomes not just a goal, but a sustainable achievement.

A standard session runs for approximately TWO hours per subject, allowing ample time to address specific areas of improvement. Lessons incorporate:
TARGETED PRACTICE – Lessons are tailored to each student’s needs, with focused support on key areas such as grammar patterns, kanji recognition, reading comprehension, listening skills, and sentence construction.
INTERACTIVE ACTIVITIES– Engaging exercises including speaking practice, real-life dialogue simulations, reading tasks, and exam-style questions designed to consolidate knowledge and build confidence in using Japanese naturally.
REGULAR REVISION – Ongoing reinforcement through weekly quizzes, structured worksheets, ensuring strong retention and exam readiness while supporting long-term Japanese language development.
EXAM AND ASSESSMENT SUPPORT – I help students prepare thoroughly for exams and assessments through personalised guidance, mock exams, and targeted exercises. Lessons combine textbook study with advancing ahead of class concepts to ensure students stay on top of their schoolwork, build confidence, and approach exams fully prepared.
FURTHER DETAILS ON PERSONAL TUTORING EXPERIENCE:
With 500+ hours of tutoring experience and over three years working in tutoring centres, I have worked with various students of different ages and academic backgrounds. Subsequently, after becoming a private tutor, I offer to bring a structured yet personalised approach to every lesson. My goal is to nurture each student’s passion for learning while building their confidence and motivation.
Having excelled in languages, as reflected in my academic achievements, I’ve developed a strong understanding of effective language-learning strategies and study techniques, which I aim to pass on to my students so they can excel in their own ways.
