About CJ
I have over 30 years of tutoring experience and the expertise to motivate and strengthen students’ skills in all levels of mathematical classwork and standardized test preparation and provide independent enrichment for mathematically gifted students. My experience includes but is not limited to, working with students with various learning disabilities, test anxiety, and troubled pasts and just being enthusiastic about learning more than what is in the classroom. I have been a classroom teacher at the country’s top-tier prep schools and universities. Additionally, I spend my summers working with at-risk, rising public juniors to help introduce and prepare them for a world they might not see at their large school. I have been a tutor since 1993 and a classroom teacher since 1998. I have carefully and thoughtfully developed my ability to be as effective in remote teaching and tutoring situations. I understand the challenging college preparatory environment. I devote myself to helping all my students find ways to achieve success before, during, and after all of the tough times in their careers as a student. My skills and sincere support have given me the opportunity, many times, to be the tutor that works with all the siblings in a family. I’ve earned many teaching awards and distinctions from the schools I’ve taught at, as well as from universities (via nomination of their incoming first-year class) at MIT, Harvard, Penn, and more. One very memorable and notable award was being named “Most Influential Teacher” by the White House and U.S. Department of Education, U.S. Presidential Scholars Award Winner. All in all, I plan to use all my experience and skill while making efficient use of my limited time with the students to help them achieve success through noticeable growth, as well as being their constant source of motivation and endless encouragement.
