About Lonnie
"The piano became my primary focus after years of immersion in string performance, revealing a deep symmetry between the two disciplines. I sat at the bench as a child and felt the immediate, physical logic of hand independence and rhythm.
My Master of Music from Yale supports a rigorous approach to scale work, sight transposition, and ear training. I guide students through pop, contemporary, and classical repertoire with a focus on pedaling technique and hand position. Decades of teaching have distilled my method into a highly effective, exacting craft. My students find that true musical growth requires both intellectual curiosity and a disciplined, physical commitment to the keys."

"Speed is often the enemy of progress during our initial diagnostic playing assessment. Contrary to popular belief, playing louder or faster usually hides fundamental flaws in your rhythm or posture. I implement a tailored learning plan based on your current level and past experience. We tackle complex hand independence exercises and sight transposition to sharpen your mental map of the keyboard.
My 13 years of experience ensure that we address grade exam preparation for ABRSM or Trinity with total accuracy. I frame our time together around steady, incremental gains that honor your history as a musician. This approach creates a sense of order in your practice. You will find that my method favors clarity over superficial achievement."
