About Charny
Honestly, I often start a guitar lesson by watching you play a favorite song just to hear how you approach the instrument. Building a strong foundation requires looking at your tuning, maintenance habits, and strumming patterns before we look at the harder stuff like lead guitar or reading sheet music. My 7 years of experience have taught me that if you do not understand the movement behind a chord transition, you will never feel comfortable playing it for someone else.
We will move through the mechanics of your acoustic playing and build up your confidence through repetition and theory. I make sure we spend enough time on the technical aspects so that you do not hit a wall later on when the music gets complicated. I prefer to keep the atmosphere relaxed while we work through these challenges at your own speed. It is really just about getting the work done one chord at a time.

So I have been gigging around the chanson circuit for 13 years. Being a self-taught musician from Montreal means I approach guitar as a way to tell a story rather than just reading notes on a page. My background involves working with hobbyists, teens, and working professionals who want to move beyond the basics. I bring 7 years of experience to these sessions to ensure we cover acoustic technique, scales, and rhythm guitar properly.
When we meet, I perform a thorough diagnostic skills check to see exactly where your fingers are currently landing on the fretboard. This helps me build a lesson plan that actually makes sense for your goals. Whether you want to master barre chords, understand music theory, or improve your chord transitions, I have the tools to help you get there.
