About Harriet
GRADES: 8-8
Science, particularly Physics, was my favourite subject at GCSE. As you can probably tell from my profile photo, I’m a huge fan of rollercoasters and anything that goes fast! My curiosity about how they work sparked my interest in Physics, as understanding the forces and principles behind them made the subject come alive for me.
That said, Combined Science (hence the name) is much more than just Physics. I also thoroughly enjoyed Chemistry and Biology, and I appreciate how each discipline helps us understand different aspects of the world around us. Together, they provide a well-rounded understanding of science and how it applies to everyday life.
I strongly believe that science often gets an unfair reputation for being overly difficult. In my experience, one of the most effective ways to learn science is by connecting concepts to real-life situations. Once students understand why something happens and where they see it in everyday life, the knowledge becomes much easier to remember and apply. My aim as a tutor is to help students build that understanding while also developing their confidence in the subject.

Firstly, we would establish what areas they have difficulty with by either them simply telling me or doing a mock test.
Once areas of improvement are established we would then move onto explaining the principles using a range of online sources or personal resources made by myself
After that we would review how that activity has been completed and then allow for any questions as well as a reflection on what we did well and what could have gone better.
Finally, we would consolidate any areas there’s still difficulty on and either if they are happy to move on plan the next session or if not a small piece of extra work may be set before next session
