About Bethany
I am an award winning professional theatre director who also teaches widely. I trained on the NT Directors Course and am currently part of a cohort of directors undergoing a prestigious artistic development programme at the RSC. I have directed for venues including Soho Theatre, Queens Theatre Hornchurch, Mercury Theatre Colchester, Arcola, Theatre Royal Plymouth and the English Theatre Frankfurt. Alongside this I have taught at drama school and university level and have coached so far 40 students in a wide ranging contexts including LAMDA speech and drama examinations, audition preparation and drama school entry. I have a 100% LAMDA pass rate for my students and all of the students I have coached for drama school entry have achieved it (last year this included Guildford School of Acting and Oxford School of Drama).
I have a passion for contemporary and classical text and love passing that onto students, demystifying the more intimidating areas of acting and the industry.

I take a bespoke approach to each student, honing in on what you respond to and what you need most. My lessons are in depth and rigorous but also always conducted with a sense of humour and play. I believe we do the best work when relaxed and open to impulses, so this is the environment I strive to curate in my lessons.
I will utilise warm ups and exercises gained from my wide ranging training and experience, as well as skills in text analysis, performance technique and vocal delivery to help you create the best performance possible. I work with classical and contemporary text and have a wide knowledge of both so I can help guide you towards appropriate pieces for you. My goal is to always make the student truly own and embody the text.
I have experience working with performers with a wide range of access needs, including neurodivergence, and will work with you to help remove any barriers to creating your best work. Please contact me to know more, or to have a conversation about your needs.

I had private acting classes with Beth in 2017 and 2018.
In the classes we worked on a wide range of texts from Shakespeare to contemporary plays and Beth helped me with all the preparation for auditions to drama schools in the UK.
As a non-native speaker, Beth gave me the full support and guidance to find a truthful, fearless performance. Through different exercises and techniques, she helped me to discover my own approach to the character and the texts, in a very precise and detailed way.
I got in two drama schools in the UK. Without her, that wouldn't be possible.

Details
I'm happy to travel within central Brighton and Hove for these rates but for further afield might have to consider adding travel on.
Please do also approach me to discuss sliding scales of payment and payment plans - as much as possible I don't want price to be a barrier to students.
Cancellation policy - with less than 24 hrs notice I will charge 50% of the class price. If possible I will always work to rearrange pre booked sessions with you.
