About Jonathan
I am a professional full time private guitar teacher and have been teaching privately since 2005. As well as teaching 60 students a week I have run my own music school which offered group classes, band classes, songwriting and music production. I have taught students of all levels and abilities and from all different backgrounds and have learned a lot about what and what not to do to help students play they want to. I have been playing guitar since 1993 and have been teaching since 2005. In that time I have taught dozens of students of all backgrounds. I have an up to date DBS check and am a member of the Musician's Union and the Registry of Guitar Teachers. I have taught people from all backgrounds and levels of ability. Many of my students have come to me as complete beginners and are making incredible progress towards being the players that they want to be. In my experience teaching students must be able to understand four key concepts; 1. How to Play - how to physically play the guitar, the techniques involved and how to make the correct sounds with it 2. How to Understand - How to make the connection between the sounds you make and the music theory so that you can use them both to help you make better music 3. How to Practise - How to make the most of your time between lessons 4. How to Learn - How to learn what you need when you need it, therefore eliminating the need for lessons completely! - Which subject(s) do you teach? I teach Electric and Acoustic Guitar from beginner to advanced levels. In addition I also teach classes in improvisation, songwriting and music technology to students who wish to record their music and progress. The first lesson is free. I also run specialist programmes aimed at the specific needs of students. To find out about specific costs of these classes and the discounts available for group classes, please contact me. I teach from my home studio in Ecclesfield, Sheffield. I teach all year round with the exception of the Christmas period and when I am on holiday with my family. I teach daytimes and evening during the week. Specific specialised classes are held at set times so please get in touch if you need any further details. What makes Jonathan such a good guitar teacher is that he’s all about personalized learning. What you won’t get is a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach, where everybody gets the same lesson regardless of where they want to go with the instrument.
What you will get is a teacher who listens to you – how you play at the moment, what you like to listen to and what kind of music you want to play. After that, each lesson is based around you and your needs. You certainly get the professionalism that you’re paying for. The patience, good humour and enthusiasm you get for free and these are qualities that make all the difference when you’re developing the confidence you need, when learning something new.
