About Ezekiel
I'm Ezekiel, a recent BSc Physical Sciences graduate from the University of the Witwatersrand, where I specialised in Chemistry and Applied Chemistry with sub-majors in Physics, Mathematics, Environmental Science, and Applied Mathematics.
I actually got into tutoring almost by accident. While I was still studying, I started helping first-year Chemistry students for free, just because they were struggling and I understood the material. It didn't take long before I realised I genuinely loved it, not just the subject, but the actual process of working with students, watching a concept click for someone, and figuring out the explanation that finally makes sense to them. That experience is what turned tutoring from something I did casually into something I actively want to keep doing.
I love teaching concepts that come from things that genuinely interest me, which is part of why science suits me so well as a tutor. I'm not just repeating a textbook, I'm sharing something I find fascinating myself, and I think that comes through in how I explain it.
Outside of academics, I'm always looking to learn something new. I regularly do online courses on topics like sustainable energy and green technology, purely out of curiosity, and I try to bring that same "keep learning" mindset into every lesson. When I'm not studying or tutoring, you'll usually find me playing football, basketball, or volleyball, or unwinding with some online gaming.
I grew up speaking Tshivenda at home and am fully fluent in English, having used both throughout my schooling and university studies. I completed my own matric with strong results in Mathematics, Physical Sciences, and Life Sciences, so I understand firsthand what it takes to go from finding a subject difficult to actually excelling in it.
At this point, tutoring isn't just something I do to fill time. It's something I look forward to, because I get the same satisfaction from helping a student understand a concept as I do from solving a tough problem myself.

My approach to tutoring is built on one core belief: no student is "just not a science person." Physics, Chemistry, and Maths often feel intimidating because concepts are introduced too fast or without enough grounding in the fundamentals. I slow things down, break every topic into clear, manageable steps, and make sure a student truly understands the "why" behind a formula or reaction before we move on to exam technique. What sets me apart is that I hold a BSc in Physical Sciences from the University of the Witwatersrand, majoring in Chemistry and Applied Chemistry with sub-majors in Physics, Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, so I'm not just teaching from a textbook, I'm drawing on a strong, current academic foundation in the subjects I tutor.
I teach in English and Tshivenda, and I'm comfortable moving between the two if that helps a concept land more clearly for a student who's more confident in Tshivenda.
A typical lesson with me starts with a quick check-in on what's currently confusing or where marks are being lost, followed by focused teaching on that specific gap, worked examples we do together, and then independent practice questions so the student leaves having actually applied the concept, not just watched me explain it. I regularly use past papers and real exam-style questions, since exam technique is often just as important as subject knowledge. I also track progress across sessions, so both the student and I can see what's improving and where we still need to focus.
My lessons are aimed primarily at high school learners from Grade 8 to Grade 12 studying Physical Sciences and Mathematics, including students preparing for matric finals. I work well with students who are struggling to keep up and need the basics rebuilt from the ground up, as well as stronger students who want to sharpen exam technique and push for higher marks. Whatever the starting point, my goal is the same: build genuine understanding, not just short-term memorisation.
