About TJ
I have a BA in English Literature from the University of Cambridge, where I was originally a Philosophy student. My overall grade was an Upper Second Class, with my dissertations receiving Starred First and First Class marks respectively, as well as Magdalene College's prestigious Davison English Essay Prize for Best Dissertation. I am an excellent communicator, having previously tutored in English, Philosophy and Rhetoric.

I adhere to a results-based method of teaching. Having done 7 subjects for the Irish Leaving Certificate (Irish equivalent of A-Levels), I am very sensitive to the importance of time management and exam-based revision. Despite this, I am strongly against mere 'teaching to the test' and emphasize genuine understanding of course content over mindless rote learning - English is a subject that demands flair and fluency, not just competence. The verbal and critical faculties needed for this 'flair' comes from thorough preparation; more importantly, it follows from passionate engagement with literature, a passion I aim to instill and encourage.
