About Carina
I’m a university graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and Political Science, offering English tutoring for students from kindergarten through grade 12. I bring a strong academic background, experience with AP and IB programs, and a clear, supportive teaching style focused on real progress. In my career, I’ve worked in big law, financial technology, and technology strategy - fields that demand excellent writing, critical thinking, and communication. These skills directly inform how I help students improve their reading comprehension, grammar, essay writing, and overall literacy. Whether you're looking to build foundational skills or prepare for high-level coursework, I can help. I also speak five languages, play piano and guitar, and have played tennis all my life. I love connecting with students through shared interests and making lessons engaging, practical, and personalized. If you're looking for a tutor who’s thoughtful, reliable, and committed to helping you grow, I’d love to work with you!

My Approach as a Tutor:
As an English tutor, my goal is to help students of all ages build strong foundational skills in reading, writing, grammar, and literacy. I approach tutoring with patience and a commitment to creating a supportive, engaging environment. Every student learns differently, so I focus on understanding their unique needs and tailoring each session to match their learning style.
Teaching Techniques:
Personalized Lessons: I believe in adapting my approach to suit each student's individual learning pace and goals. Whether they need help with comprehension, essay writing, or grammar, I’ll design lessons based on what they find most challenging.
Clear and Step-by-Step Instruction: I break down complex concepts into manageable steps, ensuring students understand each part before moving on to more challenging material.
Active Practice: I make sure students practice what they’ve learned during each lesson, whether it’s writing exercises, reading passages, or grammar drills. Active participation helps solidify new skills.
Support and Encouragement: I focus on building confidence by celebrating small successes and offering constructive feedback. I want students to feel empowered in their learning journey.
Typical Lesson Plan:
Check-in (5-10 minutes): I start by discussing what the student is currently working on and review any challenges they’ve encountered since our last session.
Concept Introduction (15-20 minutes): Depending on the focus of the lesson (e.g., reading comprehension, grammar, writing), I will introduce or review the concept and model how to apply it.
Guided Practice (15-20 minutes): I’ll have the student try exercises related to the topic, offering guidance when needed, and encouraging them to ask questions as they go.
Review & Feedback (5-10 minutes): At the end of each session, I review the student's work, provide feedback, and discuss any areas to focus on for next time.
What Sets Me Apart:
Passion for Teaching: I’m deeply passionate about helping students improve their English skills. I’m dedicated to making learning feel accessible and rewarding.
Legal & Analytical Background: My legal experience has taught me how to break down complex material and explain it clearly, a skill that’s especially useful when working with challenging texts or writing assignments.
Commitment to Student Success: I’m focused on helping each student progress at their own pace and feel confident in their ability to tackle English language challenges.
Who Lessons Are For:
K-12 Students: I work with students at all levels, from elementary to high school, offering tutoring in reading comprehension, spelling, grammar, essay writing, and literacy.
Students Seeking Personalized Help: Whether you’re struggling with a particular area or preparing for exams, my lessons are customized to meet your individual needs.
