About Laura
I am a native English speaker with have 6 years of experience as an ESL teacher and tutor teaching children, university students, and professionals in the United States and Latin America.
I currently teach a university course on global studies at Virginia Commonwealth University and also give private English lessons to people here in Richmond.
I have a certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, a masters degree in Anthropology, and a Bachelors degree in Psychology.

I prefer to get know my students and their interests first in order to provide custom lessons. My teaching style is interactive and I believe in providing as many opportunities to practice in real-world situations as possible.
My style is also influenced by my own experience as a language learner. In addition to basic skills, I teach students to develop techniques for comprehension that include understanding nonverbal communication and context clues.
