About Liliana
Hi! I'm Liliana, a third-year Chemical Engineering student at McMaster University with a genuine love for math and science and a lot of experience breaking down concepts that feel overwhelming at first.
I began tutoring in 2022 and there's nothing more satisfying to me than watching something finally click for a student who walked in convinced they just "weren't a math person." Spoiler: you probably are, you just haven't had the right teacher yet.
What actually makes me a good tutor isn't just knowing the material, it's that I remember what it felt like to struggle with it, and I'm patient, encouraging, and genuinely invested in every student I work with.
I work with middle school and high school students across all grade levels in math and chemistry. Whether you're trying to pull up a grade, prepare for an exam, or just finally understand something that's never made sense, I'd love to help.
Sessions are available online or in person in Hamilton, ON. Available to meet for lessons on the McMaster Campus as well.

My lessons are built around one goal: making sure you actually understand the material, not just memorizing steps that fall apart the moment you get to the test and a question looks slightly different.
I also have prior tutoring experience working with Grade 5–8 students, so I have experience adjusting my explanations based on who I'm teaching and what exactly they're stuck on.
A typical lesson starts with me asking you to walk me through what you think you understand, because that's usually where we find the actual gap. From there we work through the concept together rather than me just re-explaining what your teacher already said. I'll use different approaches (diagrams, worked examples, real-world analogies) until something clicks.
We end every session with you solving a problem independently so you leave knowing you can actually do it, not just that you watched me do it.
My lessons are best suited for:
- Middle school or high school students in Grade 9–12 math and chemistry
- Students who feel behind, anxious about an upcoming test, or just want to actually understand the material rather than scrape by
