About Raphael

Hello there! I am Raphael, a professional clarinettist and teacher with over 6 years of teaching experience. I am passionate about sharing my love for music and clarinet playing. Teaching has always been at the very heart of my instrumental practice. I am new on this platform and I can't wait to discover new students! Over the years, I have had the opportunity to work with students of all levels, ages and backgrounds. I am committed to helping each of my students to develop their full potential in the best possible way, and have developed a great deal of flexibility in my teaching. The many genres I had the occasion to learn and perform in concert during my professional career (Classical Music, Jazz, Blues, Klezmer,...) allows me to offer a very diverse musical teaching and expand the inspirations of every student. Being myself still learning and finishing my studies at the Royal College of Music (also graduated from the Paris Conservatory) I feel very close to my students and can bring an innovative and relatable approach to teaching. I am very aware of what a student may feel during the difficult but exciting journey towards mastering his instrument. I am a positive and joyful person, and value the pleasure of learning and making music above all, so that the lesson is always an enjoyable time for everyone! About the lesson

My lessons always take place in a friendly, supportive environment. I adapt my methodology to the specific needs of my students and give them the tools to improve with confidence and musical awareness! Learning an instrument can be sometimes difficult, especially at the beginning, it's easy to get lost and discouraged. With just one lesson a week, we spend most of the time by ourselves trying to figure out how to make a sound with the instrument! This is why my priority is to teach the student how to become his own teacher. As musicians, we keep learning and improving throughout our lives; but most of the time we are by ourselves in the practice room and we have to take on both roles to progress: being our own teacher and student. By experimentation, research and active listening, we will develop your own personalised method together. The development of your musical creativity will also be our main goal; understanding the meaning of each piece, searching together for different ways of interpreting and the technical execution on the instrument to achieve it. I believe in teaching in a way that encourages exchange between student and teacher and I never try to impose a rigid method on my students. Although serious and demanding, I adapt to the pace of each student.
