About Odalys

Hi, I’m Odalys! I’ve been teaching programming for 7 years, and 5 of those have been live online. I earned my B.S. in Computer Science from the Rochester Institute of Technology and hold the Python Institute PCAP certification. Before teaching full time, I worked for three years as a software developer at a Rochester imaging software company, building Python tools for photo processing. I’ve taught introductory programming as an adjunct instructor at Monroe Community College and mentored students in a free after-school coding club. I’m proud of a ten-year-old who built a Scratch photo-booth game and of a high schooler who made her own filter app for a school project. Students tell me I’m patient, friendly and make coding feel doable.

Hello! I teach coding from kindergarten to 12th grade, plus college and adult learners, starting with Scratch and moving on to Python, JavaScript, HTML/CSS and Java. I help with school classes, AP Computer Science, game and website ideas and skills for work. Lessons are live and one-on-one on Zoom or Google Meet with screen sharing, and each one opens with a Flash Goal that you pick. Rochester is the birthplace of modern photography, so our signature project is the Photo Filter Studio, where you code your own filters that turn a picture black-and-white, flip it or add color effects. Try a Photo Hunt between lessons for fresh ideas, and finish each class with an Exit Emoji. To start, message me your grade or age and what you’d like to build. Your free trial lesson comes first.
