About Jonie
Hello! I’m a second-year computer science student at Brown University, originally from Tokyo, Japan. Growing up in a diverse environment, I developed a strong passion for both learning and teaching, especially in mathematics. I’ve always enjoyed breaking down complex ideas into simpler steps and guiding students through challenging concepts, aiming to make math feel approachable and enjoyable. I have had plenty of experience, including tutoring students from elementary school all the way up to university. Outside of academics, I love playing video games (Valorant, Minecraft, Genshin Impact, Left 4 Dead), playing guitar, listening to music, and playing volleyball. I’m dedicated, patient, and professional in my tutoring, and I’m committed to helping each student gain confidence and a solid foundation in math. Plus, I have a wonderful dog back home who keeps me grounded and motivated!

As a math tutor, I focus on making each lesson engaging and tailored to the student's unique learning style, using my iPad to screenshare and guide them through problems step-by-step. In a typical session, we start with topics they find challenging, whether it’s homework questions, exam prep, or skill-building exercises. My approach is interactive and adaptive, adjusting to fit their pace and ensuring they understand each concept before moving on. With years of experience tutoring both middle school and university students, I’m patient and supportive, helping students from elementary through high school not only improve their math skills but also build confidence in their abilities.
