About Amari
My name is Amari Barksdale, and I’ve been choreographing hip hop dance for over 18 years. I also competed in hip hop dance competitions from 2009–2020, which helped shape both my style and love for performance.
In my early 20s, I took a brief step away from dance while working through some major health challenges. Coming back to it in NYC reminded me how powerful movement and self-expression can be, and inspired me to start sharing that passion with others.
My approach to teaching focuses less on “looking perfect” and more on feeling the music, connecting to your body, and building confidence through movement. I truly believe the less you worry about how you look, the more freedom and energy you bring into your dancing. My goal is to help people tap into the creativity and confidence they already have within them.

My lessons are diverse and creative in style regarding rhythm and flow. First two sessions free to get a vibe check and after is donation based. Classes are structured to feel more organic as we explore approaching dance in a mindful way.
