About Ailsa
I am a 4th Year University student and from my experience I understand the difficulty of getting to grips with specific essay writing and questions from taking exams myself!
When I was in school I struggled with my subjects to start with however, through extensive study and practice I managed to receive the grades I wanted and would love to help students achieve the grades they are more than capable of.
I am a friendly and approachable individual and would love to encourage those to love the subjects they study by making learning enjoyable.
I have worked with young people who have travelled to Scotland to learn English at a more basic level but I loved English at school myself!

- 1 hour sessions twice a week (open to longer shorter sessions or once a week).
- Modern Studies, History and Politics;
Focusing on essay structures and appropriate terminology.
Sources within all three subjects can be difficult to approach (1 hour session should be dedicated to this per week), focusing on structures, the different types of sources (primary and secondary), how to approach these sources and how to identify the key information to maximise marks, as well as how to answer each type of question.
- English;
RUAE - Reading, Understanding, Analyse and Evaluate - focus on the most effective way to approach the passage within the limited amount of time and how to approach the questions and their different types.
Poetry - focus on key themes and links between each poem, discuss differences between specific types of poetry techniques.
Essay Writing - focus on how to approach each question and what the student should prepare themselves for - themes, characterisation, Setting (pathetic fallacy which can also be used in characterisation).
- My Experience;
I have grade A from National 5 to Higher level in all listed subjects.
I have had classroom experience in observing and supporting teachers as well as being a Supply PSA within my old school.
I'm now wanting to take this experience and my techniques and studying into private tutoring.
