About Thu
Hello! My name is Thu Nguyen, or Lucy. I was born and raised in Vietnam, and I offer tutoring in both English and Vietnamese. I am currently a second-year college student majoring in Chemical Engineering at Irvine Valley College, hoping to transfer to UC Irvine next fall. I have taken AP Calculus AB (5), AP Chemistry (4), General Chemistry I and II (A), Statistics (A), Calculus II and III (A), and I’m taking Differential Equations right now. These classes provide me with a strong foundation in both math and chemistry, allowing me to help and guide students through challenging concepts. I started tutoring a few months ago and I have worked one-on-one with elementary and high school students. I have tutored AP Chemistry for high school students. Besides, I’m volunteering as a math tutor and mentor for a nonprofit organization, which provides free tutoring for students from grade 1 through 6 in under-resourced communities. These experiences have taught me to be patient and flexible, as each student has their own interests and study style. Therefore, I offer personalized tutoring sessions and adjust to what works best for you as students.

My teaching approach focuses on understanding the concepts and applying them rather than memorizing them. This is what I’ve learned from my higher math and chemistry classes. With that being said, I will try my best to explain any concept that the student is unsure about. My goal is not only to improve your grades, but also to build your confidence and problem-solving skills so you can handle challenging problems on your own.
