About Mieke
My name is Mieke Hugo. I am 22 years old and studying towards a psychology degree. I have a special interest in child development and learning, I want to make this the focus of my career. I am currently working part time as a school youth worker. I realized my passion for child education whilst working temporarily as a substitute teacher for children between the ages of 3 and 5.

I can deconstruct stories well and can identify and explain themes. I am a creative problem solver and always look for ways to introduce study material to a child is such a way that they can feel confident when doing the lessons. My approach is to create a relaxed atmosphere. I believe in facilitating casual conversations that allows the pupil to feel in control of their participation, without fear of judgement from the tutor. When the fear of being wrong is subdued, enthusiastic participation is more likely to come naturally. This helps the child realize their own curiosity and investment in the topic. This makes the lesson more stimulating and engaging. It also enables me to take advantage of their growing curiosity to motivate them and build their confidence.
