About Monica

Greetings,

I am an experienced Chartered Accountant with a passion for numbers, financial analysis, and imparting knowledge. Over the years, I have diligently navigated the intricate landscape of accounting, honing my skills in bookkeeping, financial reporting, budget analysis, and tax compliance. However, my journey in the world of finance has also sparked another equally strong aspiration within me: the desire to become a teacher.

I want to share my wealth of knowledge and practical insights with aspiring accountants, eager to embark on their own professional journeys. Teaching provides a unique platform to instill not only technical proficiency but also a strong ethical foundation, critical thinking abilities, and problem-solving skills in the next generation of accountants.

My passion for teaching is driven by the desire to make a meaningful impact on students' lives, preparing them not just for exams and careers, but also for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in the ever-evolving financial landscape. Witnessing the "aha" moments when students grasp complex concepts and witnessing their growth and accomplishments would be the most rewarding outcomes of my journey as an educator.

In combining my practical experience as an accountant with my enthusiasm for teaching, I aim to bridge the gap between academic theory and real-world practice, ensuring that students are well-equipped to excel in the dynamic realm of accounting and finance.

As an accounting teacher, my approach to conducting classes would revolve around creating an engaging and interactive learning environment that helps students grasp the fundamental concepts of accounting while also fostering critical thinking and practical application. Here's an outline of how I would conduct my class:

Course Structure and Syllabus Overview:
At the beginning of the course, I would provide students with a comprehensive overview of the syllabus, including the topics to be covered and the learning objectives associated with each. This helps set clear expectations and goals for the course.

Active Learning Strategies:
I believe in the power of active learning, so my classes would involve a combination of lectures, discussions, case studies, group activities, and hands-on exercises. This variety keeps students engaged and helps them apply theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios.

Conceptual Understanding:
Before diving into specific accounting principles, I would emphasize the importance of understanding the underlying concepts. I would use analogies, visuals, and relatable examples to ensure students grasp the "why" behind various accounting practices.

Practical Application:
Accounting is not just about theory; it's about real-world application. I would provide practical exercises and assignments that simulate actual accounting tasks. This could include journal entries, balance sheets, income statements, and financial analysis using accounting software.

Technology Integration:
Given the digital nature of modern accounting, I would introduce students to relevant accounting software and tools. This hands-on experience would prepare them for the technology-driven aspects of accounting in the real world.

Case Studies and Problem Solving:
To enhance critical thinking skills, I would present case studies that require students to analyze complex financial scenarios. This encourages them to apply their knowledge to solve intricate accounting problems and make informed decisions.

Open Discussions and Q&A:
I would encourage an open and participatory classroom environment. Students would be encouraged to ask questions, share their thoughts, and discuss challenges they face while learning accounting concepts.

Assessment and Feedback:
Assessments would include a mix of quizzes, exams, projects, and presentations. Constructive feedback would be provided to guide students' improvement and understanding. Regular assessments help track their progress and identify areas that need further focus.

Guest Speakers and Industry Insights:
Inviting guest speakers from the industry would provide students with real-world insights into how accounting is practiced in different sectors. This exposure can help bridge the gap between academic concepts and professional applications.

Continuous Learning and Resources:
I would recommend additional reading materials, online resources, and relevant articles to those students who want to deepen their understanding further. This encourages self-directed learning and keeps students updated on industry trends.

Ethical Considerations:
Teaching ethics in accounting is vital. I would dedicate time to discussing ethical challenges that accountants might face and how to navigate them with integrity.

Flexibility and Adaptation:
Every student learns differently, so I would remain flexible in my approach, adapting to the class's needs. Regular assessments and interactions would help me identify areas where additional support might be necessary.

Overall, my goal would be to create a classroom that nurtures a strong foundation in accounting principles, while also preparing students for the dynamic and evolving world of accounting by developing their critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills.
