About Jack
I'm an economist by background, with a master's from the University of Glasgow and experience working in the UK government, Rwanda, and Jordan. I've spent my career explaining complex ideas to different audiences, which translates well into tutoring.
What motivates me is the moment something clicks for a student. I've coached sports in various capacities over the years and it's the same feeling: helping someone achieve something they weren't sure they could. That's what keeps me coming back to teaching.
I'm reliable, patient, and genuinely invested in my students doing well. I tailor my approach to each person rather than following a fixed script, because everyone learns differently and the best results come from working with that rather than against it.

My approach is built around patience, repetition, and encouragement. I start by understanding how the student sees the problem, then work with them to find the solution rather than just giving the answer. I find this builds genuine confidence over time.
Much of my tutoring experience comes from working with a young asylum seeker studying for his GCSE maths and English. That experience taught me a lot about adapting explanations and finding different ways into a concept when the first approach doesn't land. Having lived and worked in Rwanda and Jordan, I'm also comfortable working with students whose first language isn't English, and I'm used to adjusting my communication to make sure things are clear without being patronising.
I'm happy to work with students at GCSE level and above in maths and economics, and I can also support English skills for those who need it. Lessons are typically an hour, though I'm flexible depending on what works best for the student.
