About Katrina
I am an Emmy and Critics’ Choice nominated independent film producer and former longtime Senior Vice President of Production and Casting at Dimension Films, the Miramax/Weinstein Company division.
I began my career as a freelance script reader for Andrew Lauren Productions (The Squid and the Whale, The Spectacular Now) and Cinepix (now known as Lionsgate), where I developed a rigorous eye for structure, character, and market viability.
I then worked at the New York–based production and distribution company Little Magic Films as a Development and Acquisitions Assistant. There, I read every project being sold by major international film sales agents at the global markets, including Cannes, the European Film Market, the American Film Market, and Berlin. I evaluated material for acquisition and helped the company secure titles for distribution in Japan. That experience gave me early exposure to the global marketplace and a practical understanding of how films are positioned, valued, and sold internationally.
I later joined Miramax Films in New York during its most influential era, the period of The English Patient, Shakespeare in Love, Scream, and Chicago, and rose from assistant to Senior Vice President of Production and Casting at Dimension Films.
At Dimension, during the height of its success, I worked directly and intimately on the development and production of films including Bad Santa, 1408, The Others, Grindhouse, Sin City, The Brothers Grimm, and the Scary Movie franchise. I collaborated closely with writers and directors and worked directly with filmmakers such as Wes Craven, Robert Rodriguez, Quentin Tarantino, Terry Gilliam, David Zucker, Keenen Ivory Wayans, and Frank Darabont. I evaluated and shaped scripts, participated in casting strategy, interfaced with agents and talent, and contributed to the creative and strategic decisions that carried these films from development through marketing and release.
After leaving Dimension, I moved to Los Angeles to run the newly formed independent production company BN Films, a subsidiary of AG Studios.
Selected Independent Film Producing Credits
• Nightingale (HBO Films) — I developed and produced this feature starring David Oyelowo. I brought the completed film to Plan B Entertainment, led by Brad Pitt, who came aboard as Executive Producer, and together we sold the film to HBO Films. The film received an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Television Movie and a Critics’ Choice Award nomination for Best Movie Made for Television. I was personally nominated as a producer for both awards. David Oyelowo won the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Actor and received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor.
• Captive (Paramount Pictures) — A true-crime drama starring Kate Mara, distributed worldwide by Paramount with an 800-theater guarantee. The film received multiple Movieguide Award nominations.
• The Big Bend (2024) — Opened at the Austin Film Festival and went on to win Best Film at several festivals. The film was released theatrically to universal acclaim and currently holds a 100 percent “Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The Hollywood Reporter praised it as “a handsomely crafted, thoughtfully acted drama.”
• Spivak (Netflix) — I developed and produced this offbeat romantic comedy featuring Michael Cera. The film was financed and distributed worldwide by Netflix.
• Bound to Vengeance (original title: Reversal / IFC Films) — Executive Producer. Selected as the opening film of the Sundance Film Festival’s Midnight Screenings series.
• There Are No Saints — Executive Producer. Written by Academy Award-winning screenwriter Paul Schrader (Taxi Driver) and starring Tim Roth, Ron Perlman, José María Yazpik, Paz Vega, and Neal McDonough.
• Infamous International: The Story of the Pink Panthers (Exactly Right Media / Wondery) — Developed, researched, wrote, and produced this non-fiction true crime podcast, named by Spotify as one of the Best True Crime Podcasts of 2023.
My current film slate includes The Girl Who Cried Wolf, starring Isabelle Fuhrman and Jim Gaffigan; a biopic of Warhol icon Candy Darling, starring Hari Nef and Ben Whishaw, with John Cameron Mitchell executive producing and Peter Deming attached as cinematographer; and Hello Human, starring Matthew Broderick.
I am a member of Producers United. I graduated summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa from Barnard College at Columbia University with a degree in English Literature, where I received the W. Cabell Greet Prize for Excellence in English.
Throughout my career, I have cultivated deep expertise across every facet of independent filmmaking, including development, casting, packaging, financing structures, legal frameworks, budgeting, physical production, marketing, distribution strategy, and self-distribution execution. I understand how creative decisions intersect with financial realities and how projects move from idea to viable finished film.
What I bring to students is both industry intelligence and deeply personal investment in their growth. I am known for being caring, warm, and genuinely nurturing in my mentorship. Creative work requires vulnerability, and I take that seriously. I create a space that is safe, thoughtful, and encouraging, while still maintaining the rigor and strategic clarity required to operate at a professional level.
I understand how Hollywood functions internally, how decisions are made, and how to communicate in a way that positions you as credible and respected. I help creatives strengthen their material while developing the professional fluency required to navigate the industry with confidence.
I am deeply interested in all genres of entertainment and pop culture. I am equally comfortable discussing so-called highbrow and lowbrow storytelling, from prestige drama to genre films to mainstream commercial entertainment. I believe great storytelling can emerge from anywhere, and I genuinely love meeting people from all backgrounds and creative perspectives.
My mentorship is designed for screenwriters, filmmakers, producers, assistants, and creative professionals who are serious about craft and long-term career growth.
I believe strong storytelling, production intelligence, and strategic clarity are the foundation of lasting creative work.

My lessons are designed for filmmakers, screenwriters, and producers who want to elevate their work to a professional level and who value thoughtful, rigorous collaboration in the process.
I bring decades of executive and producing experience to our sessions, along with a deep understanding of how the entertainment industry functions from the inside. I speak the language of Hollywood, both creatively and professionally. I understand the power structures, the internal dynamics of studios and independent film, how decisions are made, and how to position yourself and your work so you are perceived as credible and taken seriously.
At the same time, my approach is warm, intuitive, and deeply supportive. Creative work can feel vulnerable. My goal is to create a space that is intellectually rigorous and genuinely encouraging, where your ideas are strengthened with care and clarity.
We may focus on narrative structure, character development, casting strategy, packaging, financing frameworks, or the broader architecture of independent filmmaking. Equally important, I help you understand how to navigate the industry itself, how to communicate effectively in meetings, how to present yourself with authority, and how to be received as an insider rather than an outsider.
You will leave our sessions with concrete next steps, a clear strategic roadmap, and greater confidence in both your voice and your professional presence.
I see mentorship as both craft refinement and industry fluency.
