About Amy
With an English literature BA and Masters with Distinction under my belt, I'm also a trained legal editor and have spent a 20-year career in communications across sectors, from advertising to the law, financial services and the tech sector.
Throughout my career as part of all my roles I have designed and delivered training and tutored on all forms of communications, from writing for the web, to media training to specific training for aspiring editors.
Latterly I have worked with senior business leaders advising them on communications, style, tone, presentation and external positioning, and the lessons I have learned from working with young school students through to high-profile business leaders is the same - we all have areas we want to improve, and English skills are the key that can unlock futures - smart presentation and confident expression are a fundamental foundational step to any journey in life.
I'm a perpetual student myself, always with an extra curricular course on the go alongside my corporate career, which has stood me in good stead for staying up to date with teaching and learning styles, the curriculum and education and further and higher education system.

My approach is to establish the core of each student's need for help. 'Help with getting through the English lit GCSE' or 'help to write a personal statement that gets me in to X course at X university' is one thing, but the real need lies underneath this.
It might be technique-based - unlocking seemingly vague or general essay questions in an exam setting to produce a response that shows off style, tone, originality of thought and directly addresses the question is usually at the root of the problem 'I go to pieces in exams!'
It might be confidence or communication-based - help with interview prep or presentation delivery usually really means drilling down into tips and tricks for confident personal presentation, concise question answering and insightful question asking.
The way I work with students is equally tailored to their style of learning and what goal we are working towards. That might lend itself to 30-min 'sprint' sessions twice a week, or a once-weekly hour or two-hour deep dive. We can work together to find out which works best.
As for me, I can help with English literature, language or comprehension for ages 10+ all the way through the curriculum to age 18. I can also work with university applications, students or early career entrants on presentation, application and interview technique.
