My teaching approach centers on clarity, patience, and personalization. I believe that every student learns differently, so I tailor my lessons to meet individual needs and goals. When it comes to essay writing and English grammar, I focus on building strong foundational skills first, such as understanding sentence structure and grammar rules, before moving on to more complex tasks like crafting arguments and organizing essays. I encourage active learning by involving students in discussions, asking questions, and providing constructive feedback. This not only helps them understand the material better but also boosts their confidence and motivation. I also emphasize practical application—students learn best when they practice writing and editing their own work with guidance. Ultimately, my goal is to help students become independent, confident writers who can communicate their ideas clearly and effectively in any context. Here's an example of what a typical lesson plan would look like: Lesson plan: (60 min) for ages 16-18 (students preparing for college entrance exams) Objective: by the end of the session, the student will be able to craft a strong thesis statement, develop coherent body paragraphs, and apply advanced grammar concepts to improve clarity. Warm-up & Diagnostic (10 minutes) Discuss the student’s current writing assignments, goals, or upcoming exams. Review a recent essay or writing sample to identify strengths and areas for improvement. Teaching Focus: Crafting a Thesis & Essay Structure (15 minutes) Deep dive into thesis statements: characteristics of a strong thesis and how it guides the essay. Discuss essay organization with emphasis on topic sentences, transitions, and paragraph unity. Analyze a sample high school-level essay to see these elements in action. Grammar Focus: Advanced Mechanics (15 minutes) Cover common advanced grammar issues such as comma splices, run-on sentences, parallel structure, and verb tense consistency. Provide examples and correction exercises tailored to the student’s writing. Guided Practice (15 minutes) Collaborate on outlining a body paragraph based on a prompt relevant to the student’s interests or coursework. Practice writing topic sentences and supporting details with clear explanations and smooth transitions. Wrap-up & Homework (5 minutes) Summarize key takeaways. Assign a writing task, like drafting a complete body paragraph or revising an existing essay section using grammar techniques learned. Encourage the student to prepare questions or areas for focus in the next session.
