About August
Hi, I'm August (they/them)! I have been interested in writing and literature from a young age. As a kid, I'd spend most of my free time writing stories, a hobby that's continued throughout my college career. In undergrad, I majored in English Creative Writing and Psychology at Binghamton University, graduating with a 3.88 GPA. I served as Vice President and then President of my university's creative writing club, a position which allowed me to host writing workshops in which the club members and I would provide constructive feedback about each other's creative writing pieces. During my time as an undergraduate student, I also excelled at jobs centered around writing instruction. I served as a Writing Tutor from September 2020 until May 2023, where I polished my skills as a tutor of college-level writing by helping my peers craft essays across subjects. During the summer of 2022, I served as a Teacher Assistant for an online writing course through Binghamton University; the summer of 2023, I was rehired as that writing course's instructor. These two positions allowed me to do similar work as I'd done as a tutor, helping incoming freshmen transition to college-level writing. I am currently attending Teachers College, Columbia University, working towards an M.S. in Communication Sciences and Disorders.

My tutoring style is best defined as a student-centered approach. We will work together to analyze your writing, identifying common errors, areas of discomfort, and strategies to combat these difficulties. The focus of our lessons will be what *you* want to focus on! I can aid with essay writing in any subject; my lessons are not focused on the content of your essay (although I can also help with research skills!), but instead on how you craft your argument and your technical use of language. While I have the most experience tutoring college-level writing, I am comfortable tutoring high-school level writing as well.
