About Paloma
¡Hola! I'm Paloma, a Spanish native speaker from a beautiful city in the centre of Spain called Toledo. I came to the UK firstly as an exchange student at the University of Manchester, and I returned afterwards to teach Spanish at Eton College, of all places. About me, I am friendly, a bit nervous by nature and learning English was my worst nightmare when growing up. When I was a child, my parents used to drag me out of my ‘siesta’ time after school to take me to the language school! However, now I am more than grateful that I stuck with it since learning a second language allowed me to discover one of my passions, modern languages, and it gave me so many opportunities I would have never had if I were still monolingual. With that in mind, I want to help Spanish students in their language journey and, hopefully, facilitate them access to those doors that opened to me when I gained fluency.

I am ready to guide you through your Spanish learning journey. Having taught for 4 years as a Spanish Language Assistant and having studied a degree in Modern Languages and a master's in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language, I am well aware of the complexities and difficulties you face when learning a second language, but I am here not only to help you but also to make the process fun and enjoyable. My area of expertise is speaking, and I specialise in IGCSE and AQA exams; therefore, I have plenty of useful advice, cheat sheets and materials to help you ace the speaking component. Nonetheless, whether you are just looking to improve your speaking abilities, grammar, listening, reading or cultural knowledge of the Hispanic world, you can get in contact with me, and I can tailor my 30-60 minute sessions to your unique needs. In my lessons, I teach real-world communication rather than the memorisation of grammar rules, a teaching method called 'Communicative Learning'. On top of that, I include games, role-plays, provide constant feedback and suggestions, as well as always being happy to discuss aspects of the Hispanic world (pop culture, cinema, literature, music, media, etc.) to make sure you are engaged and motivated!
