About Phillip
I am a licensed teacher in North Carolina with a degree in Elementary Education and over 15 years of classroom experience teaching 5th and 6th grade math. Throughout my career, I have worked with a wide range of learners, helping students build strong foundational skills and develop lasting confidence in mathematics.
My approach to tutoring is structured, patient, and highly individualized. I focus on meeting each student exactly where they are, identifying learning gaps, and rebuilding understanding step by step. With over 15 years of classroom experience teaching 5th and 6th grade math and a degree in Elementary Education, I focus on helping students truly understand math rather than just memorize steps.

I rely heavily on modeling, guided practice, and gradual release—showing students how to solve problems, working through examples together, and then supporting them as they try independently. A typical session includes:
