• When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

  My interest in the field of emergency response began early in life. Growing up, I was always fascinated by the bravery and skill of first responders. This passion only grew stronger over time, leading me to pursue a career as a firefighter and paramedic. As I gained experience and honed my skills, I realized the immense value of sharing my knowledge and helping others succeed in this field. That's when I developed an interest in private tutoring and training the next generation of first responders.

• Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

  I primarily teach subjects related to emergency response, focusing on firefighting techniques, paramedic skills, and overall first responder training. I love discussing real-life scenarios, advanced medical procedures, and the importance of mental resilience in high-stress situations. What I enjoy a bit less are the more bureaucratic aspects of the job, like paperwork and administrative protocols, though I understand their necessity.

• Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

  Throughout my career, I've had several role models. One standout was my first training officer, whose dedication and passion for the job left a lasting impression on me. He taught me the importance of staying calm under pressure and the value of continuous learning and improvement.

• What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

  To be a good tutor, one must possess patience, clear communication skills, and a genuine passion for the subject. It's crucial to be approachable and supportive, ensuring that students feel comfortable asking questions and seeking guidance. Additionally, real-world experience and the ability to convey practical knowledge are invaluable.

• Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

  One of my most memorable experiences was during a particularly challenging rescue operation. I was able to apply a technique I had just taught my students the previous week. It reinforced the importance of what we do as educators - every lesson can potentially save a life. Seeing my students later use those same techniques in real-world scenarios has been incredibly rewarding.

• What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

  One of the major challenges in this field is keeping up with the ever-evolving protocols and technology. Continuous education is a must, which can be demanding but ultimately rewarding. Additionally, managing the emotional toll of the job while teaching others to do the same is a significant challenge.

• Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

  My passion lies in both teaching and the subject itself. I find immense satisfaction in knowing that I am contributing to the safety and preparedness of my community by training capable and confident first responders. Outside of teaching, I also have a deep interest in writing and creating content that empowers and educates others.
