About Laurence
I am a skateboard instructor with over 15 years of teaching experience and a lifelong passion for skateboarding. The sport has taught me a great deal about people, physical awareness, mental strength, creativity, and how we interact with the city and built environment.
My journey in skateboarding has given me a deep understanding of how individuals learn, progress, and gain confidence. Teaching allows me to share not just technical skills, but the mindset that skateboarding encourages: patience, resilience, and self-belief. I am passionate about helping students enjoy the process of learning while developing strong foundations that will support them as they grow.
My personal skateboarding experience is wide-ranging, from cruising the hills of San Francisco to bowl riding in Portugal, as well as growing up skating the streets of London. I have worked with students of all ages and abilities, tailoring each session to individual goals and learning styles. I also hold a current, up-to-date DBS check.

My lessons are structured, safe, and enjoyable, with a strong focus on building confidence and skills at a pace that suits each individual. Safety is central to my teaching approach, and I guide students with care and awareness while keeping sessions engaging and fun. I use tried-and-tested teaching methods developed over many years, focusing on body positioning, balance, movement, and control before progressing to more advanced skills. Each lesson is tailored to the student’s ability, goals, and learning style, ensuring steady improvement without pressure. A typical session includes a warm-up, skill development, practical drills, and time to apply what you’ve learnt in a relaxed and supportive environment. My aim is to help students feel confident, motivated, and excited to continue their skateboarding journey.

Perfect! Laurence was brilliant with son during his first skateboard lesson. He is only 5 so just starting out and Laurence was very clear, encouraging, and engaging throughout, which made him feel really comfortable and confident. He also gave him some great things to work on between lessons. We’re really pleased with how it went. Thank you so much.

Finley did really well in his first session. He came in with great energy and confidence, and was very good at listening, focusing, and following instructions throughout. I could see straight away that he has a natural ability and strong potential for skateboarding. His balance and confidence for his age were especially impressive, and he took really well to using the ramps with support.
One optional exercise for him to keep practising is the one foot balance exercise:
Standing with one foot on the board near the front bolts, as if getting ready to push, and practising balancing on that leg while gently stepping the other foot on and off the back of the board. It’s best to do this stationary for now, ideally on carpet or grass. This helps build balance, control, and confidence on the board.
A really positive first session overall and I’m looking forward to seeing his progress in future lessons.

Perfect! I had such a great experience with Laurence. As a complete beginner, I was quite nervous and a little embarrassed going into the lesson, but his patient and kind approach immediately put me at ease. He went above and beyond by traveling to my local skate park, bringing a spare board for me to use, and offering really helpful advice before I committed to buying my own.
His instruction is both motivating and professional. I went from feeling hesitant at the start to genuinely excited about continuing by the end of the session. Laurence has a great way of building confidence without pressure, which made the whole experience enjoyable.

I started learning how to skate quite late when I was 19. Laurence was a great friend to skate with as he was experienced in teaching already and he has a very natural supportive energy. Always up for taking time in the session to help me improve and see what was right and what could be worked on. Always a good vibe and excited to see those around him get those wins which skating is built on. ️

He breaks everything down into clear, manageable baby steps, which means you progress safely while still being genuinely challenged. I offer one-to-one coaching, online sessions, and small private group lessons, tailored to each skater’s goals and ability level.
Private 1-to-1 sessions (£35 per hour) are ideal for focused progression and personalised feedback.
Small private group sessions (£25 per person, 1 hour) are perfect for friends or siblings who want to learn together. Group learning creates a motivating environment where skaters can support each other, learn by watching one another, build confidence, and push themselves in a fun and positive way.
The maximum group size is 5, and this may vary depending on ability level to ensure everyone receives proper attention and stays safe.
