About Christopher
Young actor in tune with both contemporary and classical texts. I attack acting and performing with a toolbox. There is no one right answer for anything that's done. Examine each text on its own merits and learn how to choose the right tool for the job. I love getting into the nitty gritty of textual and performance analysis as an avenue of bringing vivid action to life.
I teach sections of Foundations of Acting at Indiana University.
In the past, I have directed at a community college, working with both students and hobbyists.
I also have experience working with children having directed children shows and taught Acting, Ensemble Storytelling, and Stage Combat in after school programs to ages from elementary school to high school.

About the lesson

I start with open communication. What are their goals? What do they view as their strengths and weaknesses?
From there we start with basic text work so I can gauge for myself what needs to be worked on and the best way to attack the issues. From there we create an action plan.
Recognize habits in the performer. Determine if they're helpful or unhelpful, and figure out ways to erase them so they don't create a static performer.
The lessons will then go forward with monologue work, classical and contemporary, and scene work if readers are available.
We work on building circumstances using the Meisner technique. We develop tools to free the body and voice and rid the performer of unnecessary tensions.
I have worked with youths from elementary school to high school, as well as college students and adults.
Make sure you find someone you work well with. Recognize that training can be frustrating at times. When we as humans are critiqued on vocal or physical performance, it can trigger self conscious thoughts as it feels like a personal critique. Your teacher should be aware of that going in and try to frame notes in a constructive, yet honest way. Dialogue should always be open about levels of comfortability.
