About Pamela
My passion for math started as a child. As a student in high school I often peer tutored classmates in math and science class. In college I was awarded multiple math awards and made the dean's list twice for my performance in math. I also worked as a paid tutor in college during my spare time.
My teaching career started in 2000 in the inner city schools of Chicago. I've taught on traditional and block scheduling and home schooling; remedial, on-level, Honors, and Accelerated Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, College Algebra, Trigonometry, Precalculus, and Honors Calculus. I also taught summer school 10 years of my 19 year teaching career as well as tutored in after school programs and night school.
In 2001 I started Ms. A's Tutoring services where I provide one-on-one services to clients in need of math help. I tutor my clients in person usually at their or my own private residence, but I have also provided services in public places such as a library, bookstore or business such as Starbucks.
My core belief is that once a person develops confidence in themsves, their ability to do math becomes less overwhelming and they are more likely to develop problem solving skills they can apply to many situations. I provide services requested, but focus on helping my clients and students build confidence in their work. I show my them useful resources to use when working independently, and help them to persevere when faced with difficulty achieving a solution. I believe that confidence and presence are key to driving success in math.
I enjoy doing math, but it really puts a smile on my face when I see my students and clients understand the mathematical concepts we cover.

For my new clients, after discovering what subject they are currently studying, I will usually make an assessment to help me determine their skill level and weaknesses. However, some clients have specific material they want to work on. In those cases I work with them to strengthen their knowledge in the topics they provide to me.
