About David
Throughout my college and professional career, I've written numberless essays on numberless subjects--from the classical world to material culture to American art history. I understand the work that goes into interpreting texts and ideas, and I understand that expressing that interpretation into an A-grade essay is not an easy task. However, I believe that with the right direction, any student can craft an excellent essay on any number of topics. While topics may vary, good essays revolve around the same fundamentals--interpretation, argument, and articulation. Given the scope of my engagement with the humanities, I am uniquely able to provide students with the help they need in sharpening these skills.
As for Latin, the language has always been a passion of mine. I graduated with a Latin minor, and wish to continue using the skills I learned through over eight years of Latin study. I believe that the study of a second language--especially Latin--helps deepen understanding of English itself.
I've always enjoyed writing. When I was fourteen years old, I started working on my first book, and since then, I've grown tremendously as a writer. Writing fiction is of course different from writing academically, but even my fiction writing has improved my ability to write and read academically. Language is something I've always found fascinating, with the origins of words and how their meanings may change across time or across circumstances. This led me to a study of Latin and the classical world, and my linguistic abilities have helped me become proficient. I would like nothing more than to share my passions and knowledge with others, and to help others in finding that knowledge for themselves.
I graduated from the University of Virginia with a major in American Studies and a minor in Latin. In addition, I have extensive creative writing experience from my own novels and short stories.

First, I want to speak with the student to determine their needs, then create a lesson plan that caters to their individual needs. Assignment-to-assignment tutoring has its place, and I'm willing to provide it, but I believe in teaching the student how to succeed on their own rather than creating a dependency on a tutor.
Second, I'll implement that lesson plan, adjusting as needed. Rather than providing answers, I hope to provide the necessary guidance to help students find those answers themselves. I am willing to work tirelessly to find the best approach for each individual, and while it may not be obvious from our initial conversation, I can better determine the student's needs over time.
