About Chris
I think what distinguishes me as a tutor is that I take seriously the idea that the SAT only tests your ability to take the test, and I tailor my lesson plans to help you, the student, understand how this is the case and how to effectively turn it to your advantage.
I love that moment when a student "gets it." That look of understanding and accomplishment is worth everything to me!
I began teaching after receiving my Ph.D.

When it comes to SAT prep, the first thing I want to know is what learning style best suits the student. That requires some conversation. After that, I want to do all I can to put them at ease and show them how they can de-code the test to get the best possible score. I also offer tutoring for high school and college-level writing. When it comes to writing essays, it's important to help students find a way to be genuinely interested in what they're writing. If they're into it, they will write well.
I've worked with all kinds of students, including students with various learning and cognitive issues.
Make sure the tutor/teacher is someone you can get along with, someone personable who can relate to you, and you to them. Make sure that they will explain why something is an error and not just say "that's wrong." You need to know WHY!
In addition to everything I've said here, I am also a professional musician, and recently the band I play with played a set where we opened for a national band. That was cool!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I'm not sure how to answer this. Honestly, if a student really needs to think things through before approaching their teacher to discuss their needs, it sounds to me like there's a problem with the teacher. For me, I'm totally cool with you simply telling me what you need and want. I want to say just relax, I'm here for you, what do you need?

I charge $45 per hour. For writing students, I will go over their essays, review them, proofread and check for logical coherence and thematic development, and address grammar and punctuation issues.
