About Chester
NAVA-STICKS Martial Arts and Healing Arts System will be providing instruction on Dayan Wild Goose QiGong and Filipino Martial Arts (weapon based art) on a weekly basis in North Denton TX.
Students have to be 18 years old and older - novice to advance are welcome to inquire and train. All applicants must fill out an application form which is about 7 pages - asking for recommendations, background of you as a human.
NAVA-STICKS MARTIAL ARTS AND HEALING ARTS SYSTEM ONLY USES THE BEST AND MOST EFFECTIVE USE OF BODY MOVEMENT TO PROTECTS ONE'S SELF FROM AN ADVERSARY OR ADVERSARIES.
NORTH AMERICAN ARNIS ASSOCIATION, INTERNATIONAL MODERN ARNIS FEDERATION (2002 VERSION), CACOY DOCE PARES ESCRIMA, ELEMENTS OF SERRADA ESCRIMA , AND PROGRESSIVE-FILIPINO KALI. THESE ARE THE FILIPINO ARTS THAT COMPRISE THE INCLUSIVE ARTS OF NAVA-STICKS FILIPINO MARTIAL ARTS.
I enjoy the moments with the student, moving in unison while the student begins to understand the basic movements of a kata and movements with weapons.
I was invited to teach a Womens Self Defense Class in 1982 for my high school for a month.
In 1992 a local Training Center named "Iron Bodies" was looking for a Martial Arts Instructor, my name came up and I started to Filipino Martial Arts Classes - Modern Arnis February 1992 till August 1995 twice a week.
I also taught Modern Arnis at Fort Lewis College for the Arnis Club from 1990 - 1994 once a week.
I have a Master Degree in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University and I am a certified Personal Coach a graduate from Couch U.
I have been studying and practicing martial arts;
1982 - 1986: Japanese Jujitsu Ryu 3rd Dan
1986 - 1994: North American Arnis Association 1 Kyu
1998 - 2016: Modern Arnis [IMAF] 4th Dan
2000 - 2016: Kyusho Jitsu 6th Dan
2000 - 2004: Kiado (Kiai Jitsu) 4th Level: 2nd Dan
2001 - Present: Small Circle Jujitsu 1st Kyu
2010 - Dayan Quan Gongfu - Wild Goose QiGong

About the lesson

1st step I get a text or email of a student wanting to train with me.
2nd step: I send a text asking for an email address.
3nd step: I send an 8 to 9 page application packet asking the student to fill it out and send it back to me. (The packet asks all kinds of questions related to the character of the potential student - most never get back to me)
4th step: I review the packet and based on the references and answers I may or may not make an appointment to meet the potential student.
5th step: If I decide to train the student, we agree on days of the week and price per 4 weeks, not a monthly rate.
6th step: We discuss edicate, rules and what to bring to class and class length 60 minutes.
The reason it is lengthly is I want to make sure I am teaching techniques to someone who will not use it to hurt someone; and to defend the helpless and their loved ones.
Mostly older seasoned students who have studied a long time and have rank beyond the 1st Dan. These session are mostly small 2-3 student max.
When I trained out of school-dojo the age ranges from 14 years old up to 60 plus.
Anyone can be taught together no matter the skill level - the classes are run all the same in a Dojo Setting.
Take a serious look at their background, who their teachers were in the past. Then take a look who they are currently training and studying under. A good teacher never stops learning no matter what rank they have.
The annual Gen Yuan Martial Arts Alliance Training Camp in Delpho Ohio with Shane Lear of Lears Martial Arts and Alternative Health this past March 23rd & 24th. We had multiple displines from Ryan Walls, Bob Poole and Brad Stone teaching aspects of Brizilian Martial Arts Jujitsu, the Red Power Ranger Austin St. John taught movie stunts and close range tactics, Mike Scarbrough teaching Small Circle Jujitsu, Richard S.P. Meagher teaching stand up fighting using tactics from boxing incorporating Kempo hand movements. Then the finale with GM Steve Cooper teaching Tech-sneeks using Kyusho Jitsu and GM Shane Lear teaching tactics on ranges to the ground. All in All a fantastic event. I am honored to have been part of the line up teaching NAVA-STICKS Fighting Systems.
