About Keanan
I'm a Chemical Enginnering Grad with a strong background in math and tutoring. Throughout college, I worked in tutoring math and science to students of all levels. I'm proud of the students who came to get tutoring regularly because I was able to clarify confusing topics and teach them problem-solving skills. I truly enjoy getting to watch my students improve week after week and become more confident in their abilities, and the excitement we share when they show me their grades.
Whether you're looking for help in classes like Calculus or Algebra or trying to improve your SAT or AP score, I'm ready to help you get the results you want!
* I've achieved straight A's in every Math Class I've taken, from Elementary School, through Upper-level college courses. Including: Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Trigonometry, Calculus I, II, and III, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, and Statistics
* Tutored Engineering Students professionally throughout college, ensuring improvement on grades on assignments and tests for all my students
* Achieved highest scores on AP Calculus Exams, and received scholarships for high performance on the PSAT and SAT I & II
What makes tutoring such a fun and meaningful experience to me is when I get to hear of my students' sucesses later on. I love finding out that their hard work paid off, whether it's simply getting a good grade on an assignment, to getting into their dream school. -
My history of teaching actually began before college tutoring, when I worked as a lifeguard and swim instructor at my local aquatic center. I taught kids of all ages and levels how to swim and improve their technique during my summers. The experience showed me how much I loved helping people learn, and how much I enjoy crafting lesson plans and thinking in-the-moment about how to best explain something complicated.
Throughout college, I worked in my university's Engineering Tutoring Center. During my time there, I received numerous trainings about tutoring people of all levels and backgrounds, as well as content specific trainings. The training I received was on the fundamentals of tutoring, student thought patterns, the tutoring cycle, academic integrity, cultural sensitivity, and many more topics.
Essentially what this means is that no matter your background, I am able to meet you where you are, understand the way you are thinking, what is confusing to you as an individual, and explain things in a way that works for you. I appreciate that everyone learns differently, so my approach to two students is never the same. I tailor my teaching to your needs and style of learning to get you the results you want.

I would love for all new students to send me an email and briefly explain why they're seeking tutoring: are you seeking to improve grades, are you preparing for a standardized test, are you confused about just a particular topic?
From there, the new student just needs to let me know the topics or areas they want improvement in, and I can design an initial lesson plan. Our lessons can be as structured or unstructured as you want. If you just want to take time and work through problems that are giving you difficulty, that works great: just send me the problems you want to work on ahead of time. If you want an in depth explanation of something that's confusing you, just send me what it is and an example of the problems that you typically see with this topic.
I've done most of my work with freshmen who just graduated highschool. A lot of tutoring I've done has been in reviewing a lot of topics that students may have missed or forgotten throughout grades 9-12. However, I am eager to work with students of all ages and levels, and am confident that my teaching style will suit whatever you're at!
I would say it's crucial to find a tutor who wants to treat you as an individual and try to understand exactly what your problems are. If your tutor says something you don't understand, don't be afraid to ask him/her to explain it a different way. If they can put themselves in your shoes and alter the way they're explaining something so that the light bulb goes off in your head, you know you've found a tutor who can teach the way you need!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What are your larger goals, and how will tutoring help you achieve them? Think about what your endgoals are: are you trying to be competitive for a scholarship, are you trying to boost your GPA for a university you want to attend, are you worried about falling behind in a class? Whatever your reason is, you have to remember it when you're struggling. It's easy to get bogged down or discouraged when school is getting hard, so I want my students to have internalized their reasons for wanting more academic success.
What are some of my flaws as a student? Everyone has flaws or things they want to work on, and it's helpful to convey these to your tutor, so that they know the areas you need help in.
How strong is my current understanding of the material? It helps to be honest with yourself, and never be ashamed of admitting what you don't know or need help with. Having a good foundation is crucial to learning new things, and it'll help me to know how you've been perfoming so far.
