About Cheryl
I am a 30 year recently retired music teacher . I taught beginning, middle school , high school band and choir through my 30 years of teaching public school music . I also have experience teaching handbells . I have been teaching voice and instrumental music privately for 35 years . I have had students go on to colleges and even advanced degrees at top music schools in the country . I love to see kids and adults learn and achieve greatness thru music .I teach voice , beginning piano and all band instruments except guitar and drum set . I look forward to passing on my wide variety of musical knowledge and playing abilities .
I started working with my high school band director teaching the 5 th grade beginning band students during my senior year of high school . During my college years, I taught private clarinet lessons and worked with area high school band camps. After graduating from Miami University , I started to teach in the public schools and still taught private students for many years . After retirement in 2015 , I began to play professionally in two orchestras and instructed a band program for retired adults call New Horizons Band Program .
Bachelor of Music Education ( K-12 music) degree from Miami University , Oxford, Ohio. I have trained at the graduate level but never completed a masters degree in music performance or education due to my public teaching obligations . I taught marching band , jazz band , concert band , small ensembles and solo lessons . I also taught vocal music 4-12 grade during my career . I also worked at churches and directed and played in handbell choirs .

I like to meet new students and see where they are musically and what their goals are . Then I'll determine the course of study needed to reach those goals .
I have worked with all ages of student age 10 - adult on instruments . I teach vocally any age . And I have done quite a bit of musical instruction working with kids and adults with disabilities.
Find a teacher who has your best interests at heart and a personality you want to work with . Remember to improve you must be willing to do your part as a student and work hard with good work ethics .
I worked with a band for retired folks called New Horizon Band Program . It's a national/ international program to keep senior citizens involved playing band instruments after they retire. I loved working as an instructor and became very close to the trumpet section along with the saxophone section I was hired to instructed and then the clarinet section found out I was a professional clarinetist . I enjoyed working with a French horn player who had had a massive stroke and by playing an instrument she was making such great strides in her recovery process . Things were very difficult for her so I would take her aside and give her some one on one time to help her cope with her frustrations in her disabilities. She was such a sweet soul ...

Details
30-60 minute lessons are my normal depending on ability level of the student . I charge $30 for 30 min lesson, $45 for 45 min lesson and $60 for a 60 min lesson .
*Discounted lesson packages are also available.
*Group lessons (on like instruments ) are available and price negotiate based on number of students and lesson length.
