About Chris
I trained as a photographer through the New York Institute of Photography, but I also have taken courses on portrait photography through courses offered by Amy and Jordan Demos. I teach photography at Burley Junior High, and my specialty is landscape photography. I strive to use the natural world to create beautiful, dreamy portraits for families and seniors.
I've been a teacher since I graduated from college with my teaching degree. It has only been in the last few years that I started teaching photography.
I have certification from New York Institute of Photography, and I have taken courses from Amy and Jordan Demos (they specialize in weddings but are applicable to any portrait work).

About the lesson

I start with the basics, teaching terminology and hands-on practice with whatever camera is in their comfort zone. I work on skills and techniques to train their eye as a photographer. In a one-on-one scenario I teach how to use manual settings. Eventually I focus on whatever kind of photography interests the student.
I have mostly taught junior high and high school students. I would be willing to work with adults as well.
I would advise that they choose a teacher who is going to listen as well as teach. When someone is learning photography, it is a very visual and hands-on process. So, it's important for the teacher to listen to the needs of the student. I also would say to the student that he or she should look for someone who has a passion for what they teach.
I recently photographed the family of one of the counselors from school. It was a chilly day, but they were so much fun to photograph. Everyone was a good sport, and the photos turned out nicely.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
1. What is it exactly I hope or want to learn?
2. Why do I want to pursue this type of subject?
3. Am I open to hard work and a bit of inconvenience?
4. Do I have any learning disabilities that would make it difficult to process difficult concepts?
5. Will this teacher allow me to be creative yet guide me as I learn photographic skills?

Details
Basically, I use an hourly rate. I charge $20 an hour. I offer a monthly rate if a student wants to do a weekly lesson.
