About Megan
I strive to keep the PLAY in “playing the piano” for students of all ages!
Piano lessons are a fun and meaningful way to encourage personal development, expression, and creativity. I intend piano lessons to be rich educational experiences in which students will acquire musical knowledge and skills that they can use throughout their lives. I strive to tailor lesson activities and curriculum to the personality, interests, and goals of each student. Sight-reading, music theory, improvisation, harmonization, rhythm games, duets, and composition are some of the variety of ways we will explore the world of music and encourage individual creativity.
I have taught private piano lessons for over fifteen years in New York’s Capital Region, Rochester, N.Y., Atlanta, and Houston. As an adjunct faculty member at Roberts Wesleyan College, Lone Star College-North Harris, and Houston Community College, I taught group piano classes and piano lessons to music and non-music majors. I am an active church musician (currently the organist at Lisha’s Kill Reformed Church) and I enjoy accompanying for professionals and students of all ages. I earned a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2012.
It is a privilege to teach young students and witness their growth and developing personalities. It is equally rewarding to help older students and adults learn new skills and challenge them to deeper levels of creativity and self-expression.
I began studying piano with my grandmother when I was 7. By high school I knew that I wanted to study piano in college and teach piano lessons in the future.
I have Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Piano Performance. Pedagogical training was a required part of these degrees. I have attended numerous conferences for music educators and have been a member of MTNA (Music Teacher’s National Association) since 2010.

A phone interview or virtual meeting is helpful for both teacher and student before scheduling a lesson. We can discuss my Studio Policy and any questions or concerns that arise.
I have worked with private lesson students of all ages: from pre-schoolers (age 4) to seniors (age 80). I have also taught adult piano classes and private lessons at the college level to music and non-music majors.
Search for a piano teacher who will cover more than the basics of music reading and piano technique and whose personality will be a good fit.

Megan is a talented pianist and has been such a patient fun teacher for our son (6). She is flexible to his needs and level which makes him more comfortable and willing to practice. Her joy matches his for his accomplishments and simply playing together. We've enjoyed listening to them practicing together both virtually and in person. There's nothing better than watching your child get excited to play music- thanks Megan!
My daughter has been taking beginner lessons with Megan for coming up on a year now and in that time we have done pre-covid lessons in person, remote lessons and now lessons in person with covid precautions. I am impressed with how Megan adjusted her teaching model so quickly and gracefully despite these challenges, especially with remote lessons. We really didn’t skip a beat, so to speak, and even graduated from primer lessons in that time. Megan is a natural teaching young kids and makes learning fun and easy. My daughter took to her quickly and has gained so much confidence in her playing. Despite a structured lesson plan Megan has been open to new songs and ideas along the way, as well as other resources to help encourage an appreciation for music in general. Communication has always been great. Megan is very responsive to questions and keeps us in the loop with an official studio letter. I very highly recommend lessons with Megan!!
