About Mary
You'll find my lessons loaded with love for the piano, good positive energy, joy, and the ability to create fun musical challenges. I describe my style as upbeat and light-hearted.
I love working with beginning students of all ages.
I enjoy imparting ideas to you as a new student and delight in watching you make music on your own! I enjoy working one-on-one and appreciate being a partner as you progress in musical technique and expression.
As a 35-year veteran of teaching, I look forward to sharing my professional techniques. Starting my teaching career at Portland Piano in Portland, Maine, I also contracted with Waynflete School, then moved to Murfreesboro, Tennessee, where I ran a small studio out of my home.
After my Northeast graduate studies at Boston University in 1996, I continued my private studio work at our home in New Hampshire in the city of Manchester. I now reside in Dover and have been teaching here for the past 5 years.
I am, first and foremost, a teacher and apply those skillsets to benefit you - as they grow from my learning in a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and Music, my studies for a Master's Degree, and the knowledge I gain from you, my students, wherever I have practice.

First and foremost, I get to know you as a new student of piano! I listen to you tell me a bit about how you spend your time at hobbies, family life, interests in different kinds of music, and/or engagement in other activities like dance and sports. So, in our first meetings, I invite you to tell me about yourself through answering a few questions on these topics and then look forward to hearing you play a song or two. This is how I determine what moves you and what will be our best first steps together on the keys. Shazam: we're off to a musical adventure!

Perfect! Mary is simply amazing. I love her teaching style. We are on zoom right now because of the current circumstances and she is wonderful there. Everything is so easy to follow and she is so patient. I recommend her to anyone.

Mary is an enthusiastic, positive teacher. She praises her students but will also let them know that practice is important and where they can improve. She has a lot of fun while teaching and makes it fun for her students. I totally recommend Mary Doane as a piano teacher!
Mary taught my son how to play piano, she was absolutely wonderful working with him. She was very patient and understanding, and she focused on finding music that he was interested in playing. I highly recommend her!
