About Kristina
I think my unique gift is the ability to inspire and motivate my students to go above and beyond, through my example, and through consistent encouragement. My mission statement perhaps says it best:
Mission Statement:
"To provide a learning experience for my students that is fun, and alive. My intent is to inspire and encourage my students to bring their passion, excellence, and dedication not only to the art of playing music but to the unique dreams they choose to pursue in their lives." -Miss Kristina
I enjoy so many aspects of my work, but when my students tell me that they can't wait to practice, that they're excited about our next recital, or that they don't want to go on vacation because they don't want to miss any lessons, it's the best!
I was a camp counselor during college and was asked to design an after school music program for K-6. It was very successful, and many of the kids wanted to take piano lessons from me. So, that's how I started! It really was by word of mouth, and referrals that I became a successful private teacher.
I took 8 years of classical lessons as a kid. As a young adult, I went to the Musician's Institute Keyboard program, (with a focus on Pop & R&B), and graduated with honors. I am also a professional songwriter, so those early years of intensive study have served me technically, and creatively- in my teaching, and in the music I create. My goal is to give my students the inspired training that I've had - in hopes that they'll enjoy the art of making music for a lifetime. It's such an enriching experience.

Every student can be a little different, so generally, I tailor to the individual. The process begins by assessing where they are in their musical training- if they've had any - and from there, finding out what kind of music they love, and what they want to achieve. From there, I tailor a 3-6 month plan that includes fundamentals; reading, theory, technique, rhythm studies, and guide them through the pieces they need to play so that they can play more of the pieces they want to play. I like to give each student a little bit of everything along the way; Classical, Jazz & Pop, so that there is always a fun mix to look forward to.
I have worked with such a wide range of students! I have taught small children as young as 4 1/2 years old, and adults up to 85 years old. I teach beginning, intermediate, and advanced students. I teach everyone... children, teenagers, adults and seniors of various life walks, experience and abilities, and some with disabilities; dyslexia, ADD, ADHD, and Hearing Impaired.
I would advise a student to carve out time in their schedule to dedicate to daily practicing before starting piano lessons. Go into this prepared to commit some solid time and energy! You won't regret it!
Just last week, I got a phone call from a parent of a former student who had taken a break from her piano lessons back in 2014. Her daughter was having trouble in high school, going through tough issues, and had revealed in therapy that the last time she felt happiest was when she was taking piano lessons with me. So, a few days ago, my former student who is now 17 years old... drove herself to my house, and had her "come back" lesson. We did an hour and a half, and she learned "If I Ain't Got You" by Alicia Keys in one lesson- and she played her tail off! It's obvious that she has kept up with everything she learned. She is playing better than ever, and it feels so good to see her return to something that she enjoys so much. This week, we're starting "Another Day Of Sun" from La-La Land.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I think a student should think about the following:
1. What is your why? Why do you want to take piano lessons? What is going to keep you inspired throughout the process?
2. How much time per week do I have to commit to practicing? (This will help your teacher to assign an achievable lesson plan so that you won't become discouraged)
3. What am I looking for in a piano teacher? Have this answer defined for yourself, and you should be able to get a solid read of a piano teacher within the first 15 minutes. You can also tell a teacher what you are looking for, and by his or her answers, you will have
If you have this answer defined for yourself, you should be able to get a solid read of a piano teacher within the first 15 minutes. You can also communicate to a teacher what you are looking for, and by his or her answers, you'll know.

Perfect! I've really enjoyed taking virtual piano lessons with Kristina. I travel frequently, so the flexibility of online lessons has been perfect for my schedule, and she's always accommodating when plans change. I played piano when I was younger and have rediscovered how much I love it. Kristina is highly knowledgeable and does a great job tailoring lessons around the music I want to play, which makes learning much more enjoyable. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a talented, supportive, and flexible piano teacher.

Ms. Malijewski has been privately tutoring my 10 year old daughter in piano for almost 3 years, and has just recently begun tutoring my 8 year old daughter as well. Both my daughters sit at our front windows, awaiting Ms. Kristina’s arrival, anxious for their weekly lessons to begin.
Ms. Kristina has a great knowledge of my children’s ability levels, and has continually challenged them to do more, accomplish more than they think they can, thereby building a healthy sense of accomplishment, confidence and self-esteem.
My 8 year old, after her first lesson with Ms. Kristina, wrote a song. At her next lesson, Ms. Kristina was so supportive of her curiosity and enthusiasm, she added the newly written piece to my daughter’s lesson plan. Together, they wrote lyrics, and it became a part of each week’s lessons.
My 10 year old is one of those children for whom learning comes easy. Reading music came very naturally to her, and when she started with Ms. Kristina, piano was quite easy. However, as she progressed, so did the level of music she was learning, and at times she became frustrated with not learning her assigned pieces quickly and easily. Ms. Kristina did not do as some teachers would and give my daughter less challenging pieces. Instead, together they kept with the piece, and of course, eventually my daughter would master the piece of music that she had once thought terribly difficult. This is a testament to Ms. Kristina’s knowledge of my daughter’s strengths and weaknesses and teaching to them both.
I believe they both feel she is a bit more than a piano teacher. She’s a mentor for the arts in general, sharing her personal experiences and recordings with them. She focuses on aspects of their personalities that can be strengthened by the discipline learned through practice, persevering over more difficult pieces, working hard and finding joy in working hard. She never lets them “off the hook” for not practicing as much or as well as they should, yet I do not find her rigid or cold in her methods of holding them accountable. She tolerates very little “goofing off” during a lesson, yet still has fun in the lesson, always staying very positive. I find her to be the perfect balance of discipline and joy in her methods of teaching and inspiring my two little students. These are not just piano lessons, they are life lessons.I can’t say enough wonderful things about Kristina! Kristina has been coming to my home giving my son lessons for less than a year and my son has made amazing progress. My son, age 11, who is easily distracted loves his lessons. He actually wants to practice and learn! A huge change in his usual study habits. Kristina has amazing patience and has a great way about her that encourages my child as well as holds him accountable for practicing. If she has an opening, grab it before it’s gone!
We love Kristina! My 10-year-old has been taking lessons with her for two years and has made amazing progress in that time. Ms. Kris is the right blend of firm, kind, and fun. I recommend her whole-heartedly.
We started with Miss Kristina in July after getting a few referrals from other mommies in the area. Let me tell you - she does not disappoint. Three months in, and I have a 5 year old that knows all her notes, can count rhythms, and loves going to piano lessons.
Miss Kristina's approach is awesome and she has the patience of a saint! We have had the privilege of hearing some of her older students play and I am excited for what the future holds for my daughter!
Miss Kris is an incredibly dedicated music teacher, singer/song writer, and dear friend.
I first met Kris when my daughters, Lindsay and Gracie, began piano lessons with her in 2002. Kris was professional, organized and ready to go with music and ideas in mind that consistently engaged both of my girls. They both enjoyed learning to play piano with her and we are grateful for her time with both of them.
Seven years ago, I returned to the classroom to teach kindergarten at Campbell Hall. I asked Kris to teach me piano since my classroom came with a piano. What a delight to work with her on a weekly basis! Her skills as a teacher are strong and intuitive. I appreciate her skills to understand her students’ unique passions and gifts. Kris develops strong bonds with her students and I believe that is essential to help them achieve their musical goals and build endurance when faced with challenging music. Kris is a relational person who brings fresh ideas, creativity, and passion to her work. I highly recommend her!

Kindergarten Teacher @ Campbell Hall ElementaryIt is my sincere pleasure to write a review on behalf of our wonderful piano instructor, Kristina Malijewski. Miss Kris, as we call her, has been a part of our family for several years now, teaching piano to my two daughters and to me!
Like many parents, my husband and I feel that musical training is an important and enriching part of any well-rounded education. Getting children to stick with it, however, is often the overwhelming obstacle. After giving up violin and flute after brief lessons, I am thrilled to say that my girls have continued their piano lessons for several years, due in large part to the enthusiastic and nurturing demeanor of Miss Kris. She shares her true love of music, both as a teacher and a performer and the children are inspired by that passion in their own lessons. She is encouraging when it is needed and yet also pushes them to excel. Their lessons have been a balance of classical, jazz and contemporary pieces to keep motivation high. When my oldest daughter was in a “slump,” Miss Kris communicated with me the ways to work through it together and she made changes to her lessons for many weeks to accommodate her needs.
In addition to Miss Kris’s yearly recitals, my girls have also played piano in many school talent shows. Each year, without fail, other parents ask me who my piano teacher is because they are so impressed with their performances. They are struck, not only by their playing ability, but by their poise and confidence. As a result, I have recommended many families to Miss Kris over the years and they have been equally delighted with the outcome with their own children!
For the last year and a half, I have started taking lessons with Miss Kris myself. I was never lucky enough to have lessons as a child so working with Kris has been a real pleasure. I am learning to read music and play pieces I never thought I could. Kris is patient and fun to be around. She encourages me when I am hard on myself and she delights in my successes. She wants to see all her students, adults and kids alike, excel and grow and she works hard each week to make that happen. She is professional in all her communications and dedicated to her profession. As a former elementary school teacher myself, I believe that Kris is a natural with kids and that her skills as a musician and private teacher are invaluable.
-Kelly Bock, Studio City, Ca.Miss Kristina is a wonderful teacher with a combination of patience, and just enough push to keep my child progressing at a steady pace. My daughter loves her lessons, and I couldn't be happier!
Miss Kristina is an amazing and gifted teacher. She is sweet, kind, and very good with young children. She is encouraging and has fair expectations without being demanding. She picks interesting songs that are fun to learn and beautifully arranged, with a combination of classical and popular songs. Her style brings out the best in her students and creates a love of piano. We couldn't be happier.
