About Jean-Ronald
I’m excited about helping a singer who loves to sing so much that they’re not afraid of working hard to get results! I’ve been teaching singing for 35 years and I’m convinced anyone with a healthy voice and hearing can learn to sing at a very high level, but not everyone has the patience it takes.

Make sure the teacher cares about discovering your voice and not prescribing what they think you should sound like. Leave the first time you are disrespected or ill-treated. A teacher should be there to help you! Be sure you are serious about learning! It will take time and patience.
One of my professional students just won the Opera Forum Award for best new solo recital album.
One of my amateurs who felt abused in voice lessons and almost gave up singing is now after a few tough years of retraining is singing happily the music she always wished she could sing.

Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
Dr Lafond is an extraordinarily effective voice teacher that I cannot recommend enough. I found him somewhat late in my career as a singer, and within months, I had discovered what I would call my true voice - my analogy is I had been driving my car in 3rd gear all through my career, and although it wasn't a bad car , when I learnt how to truly drive , with the correct guidance, I found a turbo gear I didn't even know I had! Singing had never felt as easy and organic!
Dr Lafond's understanding of the voice is nothing less than extraordinary, and not only does he have the deepest knowledge of the physiology and acoustic side of singing, his holistic approach makes learning so dynamic, and frankly exciting! Again, I cannot recommend this teacher enough, one of the absolute best available!Working with Ron over the course of many years continues to be a rich and rewarding experience. His finely tuned ears and singing wisdom have helped to improve and solidify my technique and is one of the driving forces enabling me to have a singing career. The technique provided is not reliant on gimmicks or quick fixes, but one of balance and foundational principles. Ron creates a warm and inviting atmosphere which enables students to thrive and dares them to reach for their potential. If you are seeking to better your already working technique or just taking the first steps in your singing journey, you will be pleased with the results he provides.
Working with LaFond is amazing!
Singing opera is tough and so is being a student. LaFond helps me with being aware of the whole mechanism behind singing: body and mind. He challenges me and brings me to see that I can do a lot of things with my voice that I thought was out of question. LaFond urges me to really see myself as I am so that I can improve my skills, not only as a singer, but as a human being.Ron has a special diagnostic ear, thorough understanding of the singing voice, and the ability to explain singing goals clearly and accessibly to students of all levels. He provides concrete methods to help students reach their goals, and uses his positive views on vocal development and mastery to motivate his students.
Ron is a superb teacher on a technical level, and a supportive, yet realistic guide in a tricky and often frustrating business. I recommend him wholeheartedly.
A fantastic aspect is that Ron is meeting the students at their level. He teaches working professionals as well as inexperienced singers, as long as there is a genuine interest and passion from the student. Singing is a passion for me but not a career. It is therefore really inspiring to be able to work with a such a high-level teacher.
So what is so special with Ron? For me it is a matter of (i) inspiration, (ii) genuine knowledge and understanding how the vocal instruments works, and (iii) musical as well as human sensibility,
Inspiration is one of the most important components! Most of the work when developing the voice is done in the practice room, and each lesson always inspires me to rush back to the practice room and continue working.
Also, Ron has a very solid understanding of the physiology and acoustics of the singing voice. Since in my day job I partly works with acoustics, I really appreciate a teacher that is well informed and not an offer to misconceptions and vague imagery, all too common in the business. Ron has an exceptionally good ear for what changes are needed. During the lessons, the instructions are very hands-on and practical, which if combined with regular practice, really gives results.I have always gotten the lesson that I need in the moment that I need it, the right balance of what I need to be successful in the near term and the tools I need to be responsible for my own voice in the long term. It doesn't get any better than this.
Jean is incredibly positive and knowledgeable. His patience is amazing, and he really knows his craft. As a former baritone transitioning to tenor, his help has been the best I have found ANYWHERE. It has had a huge effect on my singing and my own teaching.
Dr. Jean Ronald is a top level singing teacher who can help you improve your singing. He is also a great musician and hears exactly what you need.
He is by far the best voice teacher I ever had! Caring and clear, he helps the student find their unique voice with a technique that will last a lifetime.
With Jean-Ronald, the singing lessons have been more than just singing. The way of the singer is also a way of life, and he has very beautiful perspectives and ideas in how to go about it. For a student who knows the destination but not which direction to walk, he is a guiding light in that darkness. And he really makes you work to unleash your true voice! :)
Ron LaFond really knows what tenors need! If you want to boost your technique or make a real change, he is your man! And if things are getting difficult, he stays calm and guides you through!
Jean Ronald understands voice like few others. Highly recommend to anyone who take their singing seriously.
I learned how the voice fundamentally works and I learned how to discern how the different functionalities of the voice feels. I made fast progress, which of course is great fun, and I recommend it highly to anyone who is serious about not only singing beautifully but also about knowing what to fix if things don’t always work by themselves.
Dr. Jean-Ronald LaFond is one of the finest voice teachers in the world! He has an incredible understanding of the physiology of the human voice, and combined with his artistry and musical skills is a phenomenal teacher!
For me this man is Yoda of singing teachers, he is my singing father. he has the knowledge to take you from A to Z no matter how stubborn or narrowed viewed you may be when you start working with him. the master of seeing, guiding and challenging the singing human being. my highest recommendations.
One of the best teachers I have ever worked with. Ron approaches the voice like few others, with a grounding in science as well as the arts, and a deep sense of the mind-body connection that singing requires. If you are serious about learning to really sing, he’s the teacher for you.
Dr. LaFond’s approach to voice teaching encompasses seeing the complete student - body and mind. Apart from his extensive knowledge of science-based vocal technique, Dr. LaFond is an artist guided by his deep understanding of music and its needs and expressive possibilities.
In the years that I’ve worked with him as a coach-pianist, I’ve been constantly impressed by his ability to hear the potential of a singer, to look beyond the status quo - and by his drive, putting all of his energy into the goal of directing his students towards fulfilling that potential.
This teacher Ron... goes over and beyond to teach. I have been working with him for more than half a year now and there is no doubt in my heart that he cares so much about the Bel Canto culture and for the student he is teaching.
He gets up extra early in the morning to teach, just for me, as I have a packed schedule with work and so on and really does his best to make sure that you reach the goal you set out for yourself and holds you accountable for it. Sure he has a slightly higher price tag but with that also an integrity to match. If you take lessons from him and you are not dedicated or show a willingness to learn, he will be equally willing to teach you.
Not only does he teach voice and theory but he also is somewhat of an expert in acoustics and the way the voice works, its intricacies and the way the body looks like and functions on the inside while most teachers only teach based on their sensations. Others try to teach you to make a sound that they want to hear while Ron will make sure that the sound you make is the sound that is naturally and uniquely yours.
Could not recommend a better suited teacher. He even gives you lessons on life, indispensable! I mean who does that?! Teachers in Sweden where I live are incredibly inflexible, to the degree that they will not work Sundays, which is the only day I have off. Ron cares too much to limit himself this way. There are so many other good points about Ron that I could mention but I think it’s best to have a couple of lessons with him first and see for yourself! If you are really serious about getting better at singing you won’t regret it!Ron is an excellent teacher - he can clearly hear and diagnose the problems in voice production, and has a vast range of exercises to correct whatever you're doing wrong. In addition, he is a positive and sympathetic person, who supports you as a singer all the way. I couldn't recommend him more highly. He helped me reach a standard which allowed me to sing on several continents and I shall always be grateful.
I’ve been working with Ron for over 8 years now and he’s honestly the best teacher I’ve ever worked with. He was able to give me a clear understanding of how my voice functions and guide me through a major vocal shift with work that was purposeful, well thought out and explained in a manner that allowed me to take control of my own vocal process. In addition to being a wonderful teacher, Ron is also very kind and supportive! Definitely recommend very strongly !
Ron is an excellent teacher, especially for people who are interested in becoming the best singer they can be. I have had lessons with Ron for about a year (much of it online!!) and have felt my singing and my understanding of singing evolve in amazing ways. I have never met a teacher before who had as much clarity on what I needed to correct my vocal issues. Ron never criticizes. He is there to help, and to support you to find out what your true voice is. His professional students have blown me away in concerts: they sing very alive, personal, expressive and finely musical. Yet he treats a sincere beginner with the same respect as the best of his professional students, and this is what I most appreciate about Ron as a teacher: He does not teach voices, he teaches human beings. He helps me be a better singer, a better teacher and a freer human. Thank you, Ron!!
