About Katie
I have been practicing yoga for 20 years. I facilitate and instruct in many aspects of my life, and one quote I loves is "the tribute to learning is teaching". I started a personal practice in college, but it wasn't until I lived downtown Chicago, worked full time in the financial industry and took graduate classes at night that I felt the full transformative benefits of yoga. The weeks I'd practice, even just once, I felt lighter, clearer, and the stress just rolled off. After receiving my MBA, I didn't do what most graduates did but rather followed my heart to 7 Centers Yoga Arts in Sedona, Arizona for two months to fully integrate myself into the yogic lifestyle. There I received my first 200 hour certification in Hatha yoga, and have been teaching ever since. With a passion for learning of all types, I continue to take various yoga trainings and build on my knowledge and experience. I later received an additional 300 hour certification with Inner Peace Yoga Therapy in Asheville, North Carolina. I am a Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance at the 500 hour level, and a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapy, for which I was just awarded an 800-hour level certification in yoga therapy. I am half-way through my 200-hour Kundalini yoga teacher training and continue devotional practices according to the Sivananda lineage.
Teaching yoga is the only time in my day where I lose track of time, I don't look at my watch, and I'm truly in tune with my higher purpose. I fully enjoy watching yoga practitioners feel good during and after class. It's my passion.
I started integrating yoga into my life when I was working in corporate finance in downtown Chicago and going to graduate school at night. I was so stressed out! When I incorporated only one yoga class into mny week during those few blurry years, I felt changed, different, better. And I knew I had to share that with others. So once I received my MBA I took a sabbatical from work to become a yoga teacher. That was in 2009 and I've been teaching joyfully ever since.

Overall, I like to get an understanding of the current lifestyle of the client and tailor our practice to his/her goals.I begin by meeting with the client and asking for goals from our sessions. The first session I'll likely fill out an intake form that include a series of questions on daily habits, lifestyle, stress levels, etc. I meet the client where they are in all ways, meaning I tailore each session to what they need in terms of the phsycial asana (posture) practice, mantra (sound vibration), mudra (hand gestures), and pranayama (breath work). Nonetheless, each class I will determine which, if not all, of those four key ingredients we will be using:).
