I would start by engaging with the student with regards to the basics of that topic to obtain their level of understanding and knowledge of the topic. I enjoy using pictures and diagrams to complement my explanations. I ensure to explain the work rather than read off the slides, add in personal experience, ask questions etc so that it is more interactive and interesting.
