About Samantha
I was a writing tutor at a California State University, and I have my B.A in English. I have experience tutoring ages K-12 and university students. I know how to write essays professors like to recieve, and improve writing from multiple disciplines (I've assisted with science research papers, literary analysis, etc.) I also know how to assist with resumes and cover letters/ college acceptance letters. I am currently a substitute teacher. Hope to help you with whatever you need! My approach is one of empathy- I first try and understand where you're coming from, then give you feedback on your writing.
I have been teaching since I was 12, when I got a job as a classroom assistant at a local aquarium. Both my parents are teachers; it's just something that's in my blood. Ever since, wherever I go, those are the kinds of jobs I've ended up getting.
I have my BA in English and have worked as a writing tutor at the college level as well as a general academic tutor for grades K-12. I am currently a substitute teacher.

First, I ask them about themselves- it's important to get to know a little bit about the person you're trying to help. I then ask about the assignment, what the student feels they need assistance with, and where they'd like the most guidance. I then ask them to write 3 things down they want me to look for when I go through their writing, or if they don't have any writing yet, 3 things they're most concerned about with starting. Then we go from there- the student's concerns come first!
All kinds. Students with special needs or disabilities, students whose first language is one other than English (mostly native Spanish and Chinese speakers) and students who have returned to college after entering the workforce.
Be sure to find a tutor that understands your perspective and needs, but is also willing to push and challenge you even a teeny bit. You don't want a tutor who will just complete the work for you- trust me, readers can see right through it when it's not your own work. You want a tutor who is encouraging you to use your own voice and express your opinions/ thoughts.

Ask if the tutor has the skills/qualifications necessary for your particular need or assignment. Be straight with them- and even provide the assignment rubric if needed.

I typically charge depending on how many students I'm working with at once, but the general rate is $20 an hour. However, I am more than willing to work with your financial needs. Please feel free to message me regardless or if you have extenuating circumstances that require a discount, however, keep in mind that I am a professional and deserve to be paid as such.
