About Josie
Hello! I am a languages graduate and fully trained CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) tutor with experience tutoring and teaching both in the UK and abroad.
My first experience with tutoring was in 2012, when I worked as a live-in private English tutor for a Spanish family in Madrid. I tutored two young girls (aged 7 and 11) in one-to-one sessions, helping them improve their conversational English. Alongside this I offered English and Maths tutoring to other Spanish students, ranging in ages from 5 - 15.
I then went on to the University of Liverpool to study English and Spanish, where I perfected my Spanish language skills, excelling in my core Spanish modules and averaging on a final grade of 72 (First Class Hons degree). My degree also required me to spend a year studying and working in Spanish speaking countries, where my conversational Spanish was perfected. Whilst attending university I also volunteered at a local council, offering English as a Foreign Language classes to local refugees who worked with the charity.
After graduating I completed a CELTA course, which helped me gain essential knowledge in the principles of effective language teaching, alongside improving my general knowledge of instructional strategies, techniques and resources to successfully lead classes. After this I worked as a Part-time English Teacher, which further improved my teaching skills as I was responsible for tasks such as lesson planning and marking homework. During my time in this role my main responsibility was to help improve students' grammar, comprehension, writing and conversational skills.
I have now decided to move into Spanish tutoring, having helped a number of my friends and colleagues with their Spanish language skills during my time at university and in the workplace. With my conversational and hands on approach, I can help you or your child reach their full potential with their Spanish language skills. Due to my extensive experience teaching English classes combined with my own Spanish language skills, I can provide high level Spanish tutoring. Having gone through the UK educational system myself I will use my personal experience and knowledge to help you succeed!
