About Payam
Doctoral Candidate | Former University Lecturer | Award-Winning Pianist Payam Pahlevanian is an experienced concert pianist and dedicated educator with a deep commitment to the art of teaching. Originally from Tehran, he began his piano studies at the age of 14 and quickly advanced to perform his first solo recital by 18. He holds both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Piano Performance from the Hochschule für Musik Detmold in Germany, where he studied with the legendary pianist Anatol Ugorski. His education was further enriched through masterclasses with internationally acclaimed artists such as András Schiff, Matti Raekallio, and Ivan Klansky. A prizewinner at the International Anton Rubinstein Competition in Düsseldorf, Payam has performed with major orchestras, including the Northwest German Philharmonic and the Tehran Symphony, and has given solo recitals across Europe and Iran. His recordings have been featured on West German Broadcasting (WDR). From 2017 to 2023, he served as a lecturer at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold, where he taught undergraduate and graduate piano students. Currently, he is pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in Piano Performance and Pedagogy at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he also teaches as a graduate assistant. His teaching approach is shaped by a rich European tradition and a passion for helping each student find their unique voice at the piano. Whether you're a complete beginner or an advanced pianist preparing for competitions or auditions, you’ll receive individualized instruction that fosters technical skill, musical expression, and artistic growth.
