About Lais
I am a Fundraiser by day for Oxfam America and have had a long and extensive career in Constitutional Law before fundraising. While I was in college/Law School (In Brazil we go straight to Law school and studied Law for 6 years) and during my master's in Law, I taught English. That was ten years. I still give private lessons here in Boston. I believe in being a good and energetic teacher that brings joy into the classroom.

I like to use all senses in English class, but I primarily focus on listening, speaking, and writing. I believe these are the key structural parts of teaching the language. I also believe immersion is a fantastic way to learn colloquialisms, such as watching movies and TV shows in English and with English subtitles that way your ear gets used to the language and you can see how the word is spelled. Other great tools are music and games. My typical lesson plan has a focus on grammar, something fun to do, a 20 min episode of a show if we are ahead of schedule, or a quick song. What sets me apart is that my students want to come to class, I never had empty classrooms and was always able to put a fun spin on the learning experience, thus making it fun for the student and more natural for them to learn. I still have students from 15 years ago who write on my Facebook, wish me happy teacher's day (Brazilian holiday only) and happy birthday, as well as those who reach out for mentorship. I can teach from little kids to adults and even 50+ students because that was the variety of demographics I used to teach and always got along with every student, even those that wanted to mess around came around to me and focused.
