About Anna
I am a postgraduate researcher at the University of Manchester and teach German part-time alongside my research. I grew up in a small town in central Germany and have studied, worked, and lived in several countries, including Australia, Russia, Pakistan, Sweden, and the UK. This international background strongly shapes my teaching approach and helps me support learners from a wide range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
Teaching Experience:
I have many years of experience teaching German as a foreign language in a variety of settings:
2011 - 2012: Began tutoring peers in German during my high school exchange year in Australia
2012-2015: Taught German in private one-to-one lessons for migrants in Germany
2014-2015: Spent six months in St. Petersburg, Russia, teaching German at primary and secondary schools as a language assistant with kulturweit in cooperation with the German Education Exchange Service (Pädagogischer Austauschdienst)
2015-2018: During my undergraduate studies at the University of Passau (Bavaria), I gave private lessons to international students and supported them in exam preparation
2018-2019: Worked at a German Language and Cultural Institute affiliated with the Goethe-Institut in Lahore, Pakistan, teaching A2–B1 level group classes
2020-present: Private tutoring for all levels and age groups
I am currently based in Manchester and offer online lessons as well as in-person classes in Manchester, Stockport, and Sheffield.

I offer German lessons tailored to your individual needs and goals. In our first session, we will assess your current level, previous language-learning experience, strengths, and areas for improvement. Based on this, I design lessons that balance:
- Conversational skills and practical vocabulary
- Grammar and language structure
- Listening, speaking, reading, and writing (as needed)
My lessons are structured, efficient, and goal-oriented, while remaining relaxed, fun, and motivating.
I teach complete beginners as well as advanced learners, with a particular focus and specialisation in A1–B1 levels. I have also successfully supported students in preparing for German exams at all levels.
Depending on your interests, I incorporate current affairs from Germany as well as contemporary music, media, and cultural topics to make lessons engaging and relevant.

Anna puts so much thought into her lessons, and is just a lovely person to converse with, which makes learning easier and better!
Anna taught me German last year and I really recommend her as a tutor. She's very concise, open to answer questions and, most importantly, she's kind and patient. German is a difficult language, but she makes it intuitive.
Anna and I met years ago in Australia, since then she supports me to improve my German skills. Anna is super flexible, very structured and always puts lots of thoughts in our common sessions. Anna is a superb tutor. She has helped me improve my German language skills considerably during my high-school and during my undergraduate college degree. She teaches in a very personalised manner and understands the individual needs of students. In addition to fun practice exercises during the tutoring sessions, she provides plenty of supplementary material on german language to study on one’s own. In my experience, I have always been encouraged by her to ask questions and to never shy away from making mistakes while speaking German.
